Nice getting new toys!!
AK Dust effects are real easy to use. There are a number of examples of the use lying around. Right from the AK USA Main page is a link to Mig Jimenez’s Blog and there are some examples there. Adam WIlder has many too. The Boss here has some of his works onsite if you look around a bit as do many of the members.
Simply thought, you need to play around. Try different applications and see what you like best. I have used water, thinner and alcohol to mix these. The end result is pretty much the same, just the drying time will differ. The pigment can be mixed with a tiny amount of plaster and used to give caked on, smeared and splattered effects. Splatter can be achieved using a slurry mix of the pigment and dip a paint brush in the mix...using your airbrush on a low psi you can give small blasts to create the splatter. Play with this mix too. Thicker obviously with give you different results from the extremely thin. If you mix a little with plaster and some real fine natural dirt you can get decent ground work out of it.
The effects mix with other colored pigment to color to taste so to speak. You can dust the effect on dry to give a lighter effect or use some water apply similar to mud and after it is dry manipulate the finish with a stiff brush I have used some for obtaining the dirty thick grime on an engine if you mix with AK's Engine oil or grime....on and on and....... Again this all comes down to just messing around with the stuff and have some fun!!!
Good luck!!
