Hey guys, you know how sometimes you just wanna build something without thinking about anything whatsoever...Well, that's how I felt last night so I started this one. The Tamiya M-10 tank destroyer. I won it in a raffle a few weeks ago, the kit's about 100 years old and has a remote control wire and motor inside! I'll be skipping that part, just throwing this together when I feel like it. I spent about an hour and a half last night and , as usual with tamiya, made some great progress. Even for it's age it went together perfectly. I had to put this gear box in so I could hold the wheels on, because the axle is attached to the gearbox. I had fun doing this and I figure another session, and it'll be built. Then I can have some fun with painting and weathering. Gonna make it muddy and dusty. Again, this is a straight OOB, with no AM to give me a mindless break from my other "serious" builds. Hope you dig it. All comments welcome;)

I think I have seen you kissing the kit box often at the model show not long time ago. Count me in... it should be fun!

Some time ago I stopped at the AAF Museum in Virgina and saw how they had a 35 scale village laid out on the floor of one of their large bays and there were a number of model builders with motorized AFV's running around through the village. The guns fired and barrels recoiled it was quite impressive how it all worked though not something I would do. This model must be one of those motorized types. I know I have built kits that referred to being motorized but were never set up like yours requiring a gear box to be able to hold wheels on. This is an interesting kit I will have to watch, I take it from your comments you do not plan to motorize it when complete..

Long long ago, in a galaxie far far away, I had the task of building as many of these kits as possible in one week. I had to make sure they ran, as get this, they were used as moving targets for the Dragon gunners.
The Carter years left little money for training so the then new Dragon AT system was rendered nearly useless. With each shot at $150,000 a piece back then, all they could do is sit on the parade deck and track my itty bitty tanks.
These were fun builds and the entire week was quite relaxing for me.
I'm anxiuos to see how yours turns out.

These are often the best projects to do! No pressure, 100% fun, yeehaw! G, that is a great story...brings a whole new definition to range targets!

Nice one multicam, I built the old Tamiya M36 years ago with the motor as well.....
But mine ran!! heheh
It was a fun build, I didn't care back then about accuracy just to have some fun building it.
Enjoy the build!

Thanks for looking guys! Just a quick update. I felt like some mindless work tonight while I sat in front of the TV, so I worked on this. Pretty relaxing:). I got the bits stuck on the top of the hull. Next up, the turret. It's fairly detailed with a sort of interior and shells etc. Should be fun to put together. Then PAINT:) My fav! Thanks for stopping by. Cheers Nate

Leon: Yep, kinda fun. Glad to have you along:) Luigi: Oldie for sure... Gary: Shhh. Don't tell anyone but I designed that gear system as part of an experimental alchemical device to change dirt into gold. So far it hasn't worked Andy: Easy and fun Indeed! Nemo: Yeah, that's what I was thinking;) It's got all the bits that make it look like a tank and should turn out looking like one with a little finesse:)

Nothing like gluing some styrene together to get your mind off your cares! Nice therapy (or progress!) results there Nate.

Quick one guys. Got it mostly done tonight. Still haven't decided how much stowage to use. Prolly very little. Crappy warped barrel with seams. Oh well. Still fun to paint. And let's not forget, this was free:) I threw some primer on it tonight as well. Prolly get to a base coat tomorrow. Very quick build and very relaxing:) Let me know what you think:)

Crooked barrel? Remember everything is crooked here in Indiana! LOL It is still looking good... can't wait to see it primed. Just an idea... cover the barrel with camo net from cheese paper or first aid bandage. Easy and fun!

It's a good thing 'free' kits aren't like 'free' dogs... As far as stowage goes Nate you've got your choice of the full spectrum depending on your preference. The crews on these vehicles sometimes loaded them up like gypsy caravans depending!

We got decals! Boy it really pops with them on, don't it! Got a little crazy with the decal set and apparently that eats through acrylic clear;( . There is also some silvering going on, but the decals are almost 40 yrs. old. Oh, well. should sort it out in the weathering. ACW.

I'm sure you'll sort the silvering, looking forward to seeing more of this nice build

Jeez, they sure do pop!!! I count six stars... weathering will help tone them down. Let me know if you need me to come over...

plenty of targets for german gunners there! M 10's did have quite a bit of stowage on them especially the turret
