Sorry for the lack of updates - life calls. Well here's some progress in the form of a Pre-shade! Used a combination of Tamiya Flat Green and Black to create a darker undertone for the base coat. The base coat will be Tamiya JA Green. I will modulate this color over the black/green base. More updates to follow soon.

Here's the base color. I sprayed several light layers to ensuring that the dark colors remained underneath and in all shadow areas. The real Color Modulation will come later (as soon as time and significant other will permits)! I'm not whipped - just cautious......

Nothing wrong with being cautious, especially when it comes to the paint and weathering!! Looking nice there too!! Nice light coats is the way to go!! Bring on that Modulation!!

Sorry for the lack of updates - extremely busy at work. Bringing on the Color Modulation! You may notice a bit of green putty on the bottom and lower hull - this is something I recently saw here (Scratmod KV built) and decided to try - I call it pre-mudding? I added a little flat yellow to the base color for the first pass; and added a few drop of white to the mix for the next. Since I planned to white-wash and winterize this one I'm not sure whether I should continue to enhance the modulation or just leave it as is. Suggestions are welcome. Here's a few pics:

Here's a quick update:

Airbrushed the turret numbers using a stencil and added the first coat of whitewash utilizing the hairspray method. I used Tamiya acrylic White with a couple of drops of Tamiya Buff as described by Mike Rinaldi in his book. I also diluted the paint with water as described. Don't think it turned out too bad. The lower hull will follow. While on the lower hull; I'm having a bit of a hassle fitting the Tamiya road wheels on this kit - a bit of sanding has helped, but I'm not there yet. This bit of bad planning on my part has unfortunately delayed the completion of this built.

Have to say I agree with above comments...nice idea on the pre-weathering putty idea I did a similar thing on my T-34 build...

I'm debating whether to apply another layer of Hairspray/whitewash?? Also, I think I need to show more worn around the front of the hull where the crew would climb into the tank (driver etc.) Suggestions are welcome; please!

Nice on WW!!! Another coat of WW? Its your call... from my experience more layers it look real good just like the builds in Tank Art books. I'd chip some paint off on the fenders little more where heavy traffic is by the crew and the infantry you know? Again its your call and it still looks good to me if you wish not to change anything.

Looking good with the W/W on Mel, I think you're right in wanting to add more wear to the front for the driver, would make sense to have some wear in that area. As for another coat of W/W, it would be needed IMHO only if you were looking to add some more layers to the wear. It certainly looks good as-is depending on how long you're wanting to show it's been wearing the W/W.

Thanks guys! It's been hard getting time to "play with my little tanks" as my better half remarks. I added a bit more wear (may have overdone in a couple of spots). I used thinner as Mr. Rinaldi explains in his books. I will also add a second coat of white wash to give it (I hope) more depth.

Mel, im diggin tha heck out of it! I like a war weary look on a T-34 and you got that for sure. Nice job man.
