Hi all Well jackwagon i tried yr method and im now modeling from the doghouse, you and your almost certain Cheers Luigi coming right up Many thanks Boss glad ya like it Thanks Andy OK the cloak, as Dicky promised ya ill do an SBS on tartan , this is not by any means a be all and end all of how to paint tartan, but rather my interpretation of it. It would seem that there are a plethora of different tartans around, some with the same colours but slightly different on the thickness of certain stripes, must have been very confusing trying to differentiate between some clans. So the problems i have found when painting tartan is that its very time consuming for little result and you need a very fine brush and good eyes, one out of two isnt bad then . This tartan will have a green base, Blue check, with yellow and red.and ill start on the inside where it is darker, that way if i cock it up you wont be able to see it When the base colour has been painted this needs to be highlighted and shadowed as per usual. ive put very deep shading at the top and on the lower parts of the cloak The next stage is to paint in the main check colour, in this case blue, thse will have to be as uniform as possible and i started on the outer edge so that i had the edge as a guide Once you are happy with this it then needs to be highlighted and shaded in the same places as the green base, so where the blue is nearer to the top i added a touch of white gradually and nearer the bottom i added a touch of brown, and carefully painted over the original lines, again as this is acrylics its a case of layering each colour a bit at a time. As you can see the blue parts now have the highlights and shading in the same place as the base green coat did. Next step is the yellow, this is a very thin line in that goes onto the green squares, again in a checker pattern The next step is to mix a darker blue, this one i have mixed about 4 shades darker than the original. This colour is to go on where the vertical and horizontal blue stripes meet, so all the blue junctions are painted in this darker blue and where they are in shadow ive mixed an blue even darker in colour And the final colour is red, this goes on in a very fine line in the middle of the blue check. As i said at the start this a very times consuming thing to paint as each colour needs to be highlighted and shadowed. The outside of the cloak will be a bit lighter and perhaps a bit clearer in the pics so ill post some more when its done Paul
