Hey guys. I'm nearing the end on a couple of other builds and while those are drying, I thought I'd crack into the next one. I've always been a Porsche fanatic and my son insists that i build a car that's "nice" meaning clean and shiny. I also have another Porsche 356 B Carrera 2000 GS in the stash that I'm itching to do but figured I'd better start out a little easier and cut my teeth on this one if you know what I mean. Some pics. Kit is cool with some good detail but does have a few slight fit issues. Just minor gaps between bumper and body for example. Overall, I'm very pleased with the kit. It doesn't have an engine, unlike the other Porsche kit that I have. And here are the first glimpses of the beautiful curvy lady I've got the bumpers, side mirrors, and rear spoiler mounted already, just haven't taken any pics since last night. I'm leaning towards a nice red with black leather interior (I'll be shooting for a subtle patina of age as well, not showroom though almost) though i'm not certain yet. Let me know what you think. Cheers

This is so weird! I saw practically the same car today while coming home from the store. The difference between them was ummmmm....a very distinct latino ummmm......"Flare" if you will. A beautiful car indeed Nate, bring it on!

Welcome along, exserco. I've always loved everything Porsche has ever built myself too:) It's a Fujimi kit. Pretty good, but not perfect.

Hey guys. Been hard at it:) I got a re-load of Tamiya paint the other day. Hit it with a first coat of red 2nd coat tonight. i1156.photobucket. com/albums/p580/multicam1/88%20Porsche%20911%20Targa%20Turbo/DSCF9276_zpsa6a2b023.jpg[/IMG] Got them masked for their satin black centers Still quite a bit to do, but getting close to a finish on this one. A question for you car model experts.... How do you deal with trim/ rubber on these things? Do you mask then remask for the other color or just brush paint the smaller bits? Let me know. My plan is to brush paint the black bits on this one. Advice/Comments welcome:) Cheers

Hey fellas getting closer on this one. Painted the wheels. Layed some carpet;) It gives it a lil texture under paint. Teabag paper. Painted the seats with oils a couple of weeks ago, just to try to get that textured leather look. I think I may try some more gloss to highlight it as if they had a spray of armor all or mink oil. did some other detail painting as well. Keeping the underside simple: flat black base with a chrome dry brush. Did the discs with tamiya chrome and the calipers with Tamiya old aluminum. Brushed on the black bits ( rubber and trim) looks pretty good and I'll hit it with another coat. I want to keep the black bits on the exterior a little flatter (thus the satin and flat black paints) so I'm planning on carefully masking with a notecard when I spray the clear coats in order to avoid tediously masking everything only to have overspray anyway. Any other suggestions or other approaches would be greatly appreciated:) Thanks for looking.

Top job Nate ..............as for the clear coat..........i`d mask it mate, i know it`s a bit more work but you could have that black covered in no time. You can mask oversize as Dicky has mentioned, or, cut some Tam tape into 1mm strips and mask the black tightly around the joining edges and then back fill any gaps..........blast the red over to give a tight finish, leave the masking on and then clear coat! If you do decide to go the notelet paper route then i would be inclined to use a stiffer card.................trying to hold a floppy bit of paper in one hand and spraying with the other can be a bit hit and miss, natural movement of ya hand can cause you to move the paper and the clear can get on the black! you also have to allow for natural contours on the car as well..........paper and card will need to be shaped to allow for this................by the time ya got the perfect shape ya could have had it masked

Great advice, fellers! OK....OK...I'll mask the ferken thing:)
Dicky, it's amazing that I didn't think of that. Great idea. I suppose that's how all knowledge is though: you don't know it until you know it:). Thanks
Boots, you're right on the hit or miss aspect of the notecard method and the necessity to contour them;). I'll stop being a lazy bugger and do it the right way:) Fanks for the nudge;)

Good man Nate............ya won`t be sorry by spending an hour or so masking fella This is the situation i had on the 57 Chevy.................i had the choice of BMF, hand paint or mask and AB the Chrome trim on the front and rear screens........plus the side window!! This took me just about an hour, the outline of the trim is masked using 1mm strips (as mentioned).............the thinner the strip the more pliable it is to shape around the cars contours................then you can add the 5mm and finally block fill with tissue. Here`s how the 57 evolved......(sorry mate not Hijacking ya thread ) The 1mm first layer and some of the 5mm..................the roof block filled with tissue.. Then the body blocked in with tissue and an old sponge shoved inside it to stop overspray entering inside.. All in all an hour or two`s work You can see it`s a lot of trouble for 1mm of shiny chrome to be applied but hand painting is a no-no and i`ve never used the BMF yet Here`s the end result...... The same method was used on the side trim on the rear quarter panel.... As you can see the extra time just gives ya that nice tight finish...........mines in no way perfect fella but i`m happy with it The end result.... Hope ya don`t mind me sticking this on here Nate.............sometimes a picture saves me a thousand words ..............hope this gives ya that nudge a wee bit more ............

Boo: Nice to have you along my friend:) always a pleasure.
Boots: You post as many pics as you like on this thread. Again, great tips and I'll definately suck it up and take the time to properly mask. This car looks the business by the way. Is it really a 57? the side chrome is screaming 55 but the pointy bit above the headlight and the tail wings are throwing me off. Definitely not your standard 57 chevy in any case:). Thanks for the help mate:)
