With the Crusader in a holding pattern until the -C conversion arrives, and the Pz.38(t) nearing a point where I have to stop and wait for some supplies coming from across the pond, I'm making preparations for my next project. While tempted by the prospect of a big Hornet, I just couldn't have two gray things on the go at once, so instead it'll be two pointy things. I can swear I've seen plenty of dismissals of Trumpy's big MiG-21MF, but to me it looks like a pretty solid kit with some nifty features (metal shock cone, metal landing gear, screws!). The cockpit could be better, but it's far from bad. The missiles and drop tanks and rocket pods all look pretty good to me, too. I don't know if it's as slickly executed as Eduard's 1/48 kits, but we'll find out. Extras this time around include 1) Eduard's BigEd set - a relatively cheap $30 or so, 2) True Details' resin bang seat, and 3) Master's brass pitot tube. As for schemes, I'm planning on doing the first one posted below...

You like it large, Matt! Had some hope you would go for the Bundesluftwaffe scheme, but... Yesterday SWMBO had the two-sweater kit in hands but I could not get her to buy it. Will follow you here, another great and informative build for sure.

Uh oh, you're turning into me - 3 builds on the bench at once!
Interested to see how this goes together for you. Think I have all of Trumpy's 1/32 MiG-21 variants? Can't wait to crack into them!

Heh - I usually have multiples on the go. Two or three...but this would be the first time it's been all big-scale stuff. Don't know why, but I've completely lost interest in 1/48 lately, to the point where I'm considering seriously thinning that part of the stash. As for the big MiG-21s...I'd definitely like to collect all three. The Mongol looks a bit goofy to my eyes, but I definitely want at least the F-13. My Crusader needs a target...

Oh ho, but don't forget about all the Chinese-manufactured variants! F-7MG (Pakistani markings), J-7EB (Aerobatic Team), and J-7II (PLA).
I'm forgetting what armaments come with the Chinese ones...can't recall if there's anything not-Russian.

That's odd. I have the one without the DVD...just sent the guy an email to see if the set still exists anymore (I can't believe it would already be gone after only 2-3 years?). Interested to hear what he says.

I'll be interested, too. I'd pick up a second MF to do a Lancer.

Did some test-fitting last night. That was fun. Still not entirely happy with my chosen scheme, though. And then I discovered this: Meet "Red 30" as she appeared in September 1993. Exciting, no? With that boring gray paint? Well, here's how she looked about a year ago. I've just about convinced myself to go for it...

I agree with your choice, grey with green tip looks aggressive and mean, as the -21 was in its era

I'll be interested, too. I'd pick up a second MF to do a Lancer. Got an email reply yesterday. He sent me a link to aviation megastore in Belgium, who has three in stock. Cost is 25 euros (reasonable!) with 32 euros tacked on for shipping to the states(not reasonable!). He's got another project going right now, then plans to do another run of LanceR conversions. Asked him if he plans on having any available in the U.S. - still waiting to hear back. Hoping Spruebros or someone like that can get a few in.
