Hi all, as some of you may know some time ago i did a sculpt of George and the dragon, and after making the dragon my wife claimed it as hers , so since i nicked it back to put it with George she has bent my ear about making her another one, and since im not starting the Boudicca build until after my holiday next month i thought id make a start on her dragon. As before im making this out of Das clay for 2 reasons, its cheap and ive got loads of it sitting around . so i always start with the head and here are a few pics of that under way, obviously its not to any scale but to give you some idea of the size the head measures 100mm from the tip of its horns to its mouth So first the basic shape of the top of the head and the nose Then the bottom jaw was added, some horns and a snout Next i added some more horns some cheek wingy things and other bits of detail to tne nose and finally a view inside the mouth, ive added some gum lines top and bottom ready for the teeth to be made This is only the right side still the left to do and then i can add the scales all for now Paul

jackwagon missed you there, funny you should mention it but i did hear words from the boss about a certain person corilating Dragons and her good self. I did point out that, you being an upstanding member of the community with an impecible service record and a gentleman to boot, would never dream of saying anything like that .......Im not going to write her reply as i know children frequent this site But cheers anyway, yep im up to speed on the proper names for dragon bits Paul

Yep, scales...the dragon's version of track links or road-wheel cleanup! At least this time around you'll have had LOTS of practice Paul.

Thanks Leon Bill yep loads of practice at scales, ill probably need de-scaling after this Boo thanks, Das isnt too bad its just powdery and easily breaks, but for smaller parts i use wire then cover it in Das Thanks Jcon Exserco many thanks, Das is not to bad drying, about a couple of hours on larger bits but much less on finer bits Paul

Cheers Bruce, as i said its not a bad medium to work with, nice and cheap so it doesnt matter if you make a few mistakes and waste some just a quick update. ive just been adding a few bits to the head and im working on the position for the body and how it will be posed. next step is to get the teeth and the tongue done all for now Paul

Do you start from an example? I mean from a picture, drawing, or another model? Or doing this from what comes to your mind? I love this! doing it all from my head, I have done one before so ive got a bit of an idea, ive also got a few books on dragons and of course theres the good old web for ideas, but on the whole this will be from my imagination Paul

Thanks for the comments guys, if anyone wants to chip in any ideas as its going feel free, thats the beauty of something like this there are no rules, other than it should look like a dragon. .........oh and yeah it should be scary. .......and it should have horns and squillions of scales, but other than that So finished the left side, just in case any of you thought i wasnt doing it, and then added a few gnashers, they will want a bit of shaping when the clay has hardened Upper set to do next then the tongue and then a few outer boney teeth Paul
