1975 Ferrari 312T

Good Evening,

Some of you may remember me, some may not. I normally build WW1 aircraft some of you may have seen my work (WNW LVG and WNW Albatros DVa) on these pages.

I ran into jackwagon (Nemo) and Chris B a couple of months ago at a show, in conversation I mentioned my latest project and showed them some poor photo's on my iPhone.
jackwagon suggested that I post them here for you to check out.
I have since completed some more of the project which is built out of box and improved the quality of the photos. There is still a long way to go with this.

Thank you all for the kind comments about the build.

Mark, good to hear from you and glad you like the progress so far. I can highly recommend all of the big scale Tamiya f1 kits ( I have most of them now in my stash). they do some times require some forward thinking but the end result is very good. I can also highly recommend the new Enzo and Carrera GT kits, these are just awesome. I will be building both of these in the near future.

Right an update for you,

The Engine and roll bars have now been permanently installed.

The Front and rear spoilers have had the Tamiya Chrome plating removed and then repainted using Alclad Airframe aluminium. They were then sprayed with Aqua gloss before the decals were added, finally another coat of Aqua gloss to finish off.
All of the red panels were painted with Zero 1970's Rosso Formula 1 then finished with 2K clear before and after the decals.





The side pods have been installed along with the top plates, which are just dry fitted at the present





Finally some more detail painting has been added.





Next up will be the pipe work and wiring.

I have nothing in the way of criticism my friend, except maybe that this is not on my bench!! Outstanding!! The engine detail is just a freak-show (That would be a good thing)...the spoiler shot is what got me....the finish reflection is just eye candy!!!

Mark, thanks very much. Aqua gloss is very good indeed, although it does take a bit of getting used to and should be applied in light mist coats, not wet coats as with normal clear.
It can be used on all of the Alclad finishes, although with the high shine paints you do lose some of the depth of shine, so if a high chrome or polished aluminium surface is required it's best not to seal it with aqua gloss.
I find that the normal Alclad finishes such as aluminium give a good hard wearing finish straight out of the bottle if applied over a gloss finish (I use blue, grey and black to very the tones of the finishes) but if detail painting or decals are to be added then I always seal them first with aqua gloss to protect the Alclad paint. Once sealed you could spray a matt or satin finish if required.
Aqua gloss is acrylic, but be careful because the other Alclad clear finishes are lacquer based.

Hi Mark,

Yes get yourself a bottle and give it a go, it is also good for dipping parts as well. I believe it is better than clear.
One word of caution. Make sure you flush out your airbrush thoroughly with lots of clean water IMMEDIATELY after use, then clean as normal, when I first started using this I had a couple of stoppages due to the aqua gloss reacting with the lacquer thinner I use for spraying my tamiya paints in my air brush.

Hi Mark,

Thanks very much, the finished model is 370mm long 165mm wide and 120mm high.
I was quite surprised at the size of it, although it will be small compared to the Carrera GT, which I am just in the planning stages of.

These kits do come up on eBay quite frequently at reasonable prices, but it is best to get the later release with the PE and the cartograph printed decals.

Keith so glad to see you here in my humble opinion you are with out doubt one of the if not the finest engine and engine detail painters out there I don't like racing car models much ,but that is something else all the different metallics are outstanding more please Could you please please do a afv internal soon.
