It's one I've put on my Wish List, I had been saving a 'Super Kit' Pz IV D for that slot on the TBD schedule but would much rather fill it with a Smart Kit instead. Went over to the DragonUSA webstore to check out the CAD scans, they’ve thrown a lot of the goodies into this one but no Magic Tracks – DS tracks instead. That’s alright, these could be replaced with a Modelkasten set, far more accurate in detail and workable. I know you already have experience with Modelkasten tracks, I bought a set for the F2 after viewing one of your Pz. IV builds. I have the up armored Cyber Hobby PZ. IV Ausf.D Vore in the wings to do and can’t wait to get to that one, I really like the Ausf. D’s. The upcoming tropical version would really be nice to add to the stash. Hoping to see you do a build log with that kit if it dose make it to your stash? Eddie, welcome over !! your insights will be great over here.

It will probably be a while before the IV-D gets added to the stash unless a really good sale pops up over the summer as I tend to not get kits right at release generally speaking. But when I do get it and build it, I will definitely do a build log for it Eddy! I can understand why Dragon moved to DS tracks as a 'standard' thing given the way many people feel about static indy tracks, but I will definitely replace them with MKs when the time comes.

I'll keep an eye open, looking forward to seeing your take on the build. You always manage some very good pointers and solutions to issues found on the kits. Just keep your big wolf from chewing on the plastic parts, OK!

Gary, these should be the lifting hooks of the upper hull (Panzerkasten Oberteil).
Two must be located at the front left and right corner, where the other two go I can't remember right now.

Gary, two of those go on the upper hull near the the two side visors, and also on each side of the turret and I believe one where the turret baskit is located. They are lifting hooks.
Now get to building bro. Got my KV-II nearly done now and another soon to hit the bench...lol The KV is a hell of a lot quicker to build than the PZ IV.

Hey Fellas, HELP!!!!! Those Dragon instructions!
Thanks fellas, Gary
Hi Gary, I recall having the same ?'s with these bits when I built my last Pz.IV G (the one that never was). If you study the next few steps very closely they are suddenly called out. Why you are asked to build them up now I don't know but trust me - you'll find them a few steps ahead. Well, it is Dragon - it wouuldn't be a challenge if the instructions were simple! Looking forward to more! Ben

Hey easy fellas, im actually on step 3. Just couldnt find where those wee bits went on the kit. Heres where im at right this minute. Still need to go back and clean the mold line from the idler tires, but im on track other than that. Thanks for the info on where the mystery parts go fellas. I reckon i didnt go far enough into the instructions to see where the little buggers went. Gary

You better get crackin' Gary and stay on task with this one or Dicky's going to bust you! Nice work on the road wheels and such. I'll never understand why Dragon asks you to build the lifting hooks in Step 1 and then set them aside for an ice age before they are actually used...unless it was the simplest way for them to include it in the space available on the instruction sheet. Could be worse though...they could never tell you about them at all (like with the nice little wing nuts and other bits that are on the sprues as 'easter eggs')!

Personally these Dragon panzer IV smartkits are my favs, the 3 in 1's are ok guess there are some hull issues though. You are moving right along though.Wo'nt be long and the paint will fly.I thought these all had turret baskets and detailed guns?Well anyway I do not mean to hijack your thread but heres a couple of the shelf queens from Dragon waitin on completion. Attachment DeletedAttachment Deletedlack of motivation I guess.

Gary, the Force will be with you, forever ! The Dragon instructions suck sometimes, I had the same problem with my SFH 18 a couple of years ago.
