The Panda Pz.38(t) rekindled my armor mojo...so time for the next one - Dragon #6406. I actually started this Tiger about two years ago. Had to put it aside because it was immediately pre-move and all my paints were packed. My plan is to build it as this one from the Kagero Topcolors book. The barrel rings are provided as decals. Aiding me in the cause will be a set of friul tracks (going to try Gun Blue as a blackening solution), RB barrel, ATAK resin zimmerit appliques, and a LionRoar PE set, mainly so I can get beat-uppable track skirts.

Knocked out the Tiger's radiator boxes last night. Alclad Duraluminum, Steel, and a Brass/Exhaust Manifold mix. The red oxide primer is a mix of Gunze RLM 23 Red, Hull Red, Offwhite and Orange Yellow. And of course, once the access hatches are in place, it's all invisible except at like one exact angle (and I haven't even put on the screen yet).

Got the upper deck glued in place last night, and I'm starting to test-fit the ATAK zimmerit. LionRoar PE set arrives today!

Not done with that yet, either. According to my information the Tiger I'm doing was the only one of its unit to survive the Normandy campaign. I'm going to guess it had more than its share of beatings.

Got the last of the ATAK zim down last night...overall happy with how it fit, and I can't wait to see how it comes out under paint. Also got a bit more work done before realizing how ungodly late it was...the radiator mesh covers that come with the Dragon kit were pre-folded. How cool is that?

Zim looks great. Interested to hear how the "gun blue" works out on the Friuls? Have been experimenting a bit with some home-made concoctions to replace the super-expensive Blacken It.

Atak zim sets are my go-to method and yours is looking pretty sharp doogs. That's cool regarding the screens, nice touch by Dragon.

Getting very, very close to the point where I need to start painting. Pre-painting to-dos: - Turret stowage box - PE fenders (will be added later, but need to be folded up and ready to go) - PE clamps (will be painted on-vehicle, then tools/tow cables/etc added after) - Assemble friul tracks (my plan is to paint/weather/install running gear either prior to painting the hull, or just after)

Tonight was a night for swearing at PE. Got the rear fenders/mud flaps in place. The PE hinges were a PITA! Big improvement over the kit part, though, especially for damage and wear-and-tear.

Nice work on the Tiggy, looks good mate. Pitty that Atak didn't use the broader zimmerit pattern for the turret (as was comon on Tiger I's) but that's just a detail. Nevertheless a great build so far. Looking forward to the next step! Keep it up
Cheers

Thanks all!
Wouter - ATAK does include the alternate zim pattern for the turret...that it wasn't used is due to my ignorance...my knowledge of armor lags way behind aircraft...

Thanks Tony! I did more or less the same, but didn't tape the hinges down and didn't use the ruler. Good to know for the next round!

Hat's off to you for tackling those hinges Doogs, I can see why it would induce some swearing and muttering, but well worth it by the look you've achieved with them.
