Started this one earlier in the week...I'd originally thought to do a G-6 to refresh myself on the Hasegawa kit with the new Revell tooling coming out, but was won over by one of the G-4s in Chris Busbridge's decal set. The colors on the profile aren't exactly accurate...but the callouts are. It's standard Luftwaffe camoflage of RLM 74/75/76, but with the German insignia oversprayed in Italian grigio azzurro chiaro and mottled with verde olivia scuro (light blue gray and dark olive green respectively). The profile misses the white wingtips, but that's what reference photos are for... In this shot you can really see the overspray in Italian colors. Aftermarket is staying relatively light. Eduard PE, Eduard/HGW harness, Quickboost stick, gun barrels and exhausts.

Started things off by filling in the installation holes for the G-6 beule bulges. Some styrene rod + Tenax, trim and sand. Then I moved on to the Eduard PE for the cockpit...accentuated with some wiring work. Overall, I prefer the Eduard stuff to the kit cockpit, but if I'd known it existed, I'd have sprung for the MDC G-2/G-4 cockpit.

Work continues. Detail work on the starboard sidewall. The Hasegawa kit doesn't make it easy to replicate the clear inspection tube for the fuel line. I achieved a "fake clear" by painting the portion MM Metalizer Dark Anodonic Gray, then topping that with Tamiya X-19 Smoke. The Eduard instrument panel is just about done. The color PE is pretty noticeably off from RLM 66, but a coat of Vallejo Dark Gray Wash brought it nicely into line. In other cockpit news, some initial assembly of the Eduard/HGW harnesses. And lastly, the cockpit floor and Quickboost control stick. Hoping to wrap up the cockpit and join the fuselage halves tonight.

mate, for what it's in the book of Wydawnictwo Militaria 047 Bf109G-H comes this profile of the plane. usually quite accurate profiles and colors placed very good job in you, missing you paint the air ducts in color, no?

Thanks destrozas...gotta love Italian 109s! The profile you posted, though, is for a different aircraft (G-6/R6 Trop), and that's one thing about these Regia Aeronautica 109s. They all had weird variations in their schemes, configurations, and how exactly they were overpainted.
The G-4 I'm doing doesn't wear yellow - check out the reference pic I posted way up top. The chin is very clearly lighter colored and mottled. The aircraft in the foreground, on the other hand, looks like it did have a a yellow chin, by the distinctly different and uniform coloration.

Andy - it's looking even more like a plane now! Got the wings on last night. I think I need to go back and lighten the RLM 02 in the gear bays, but overall this was a pretty painless affair. Bf 109G-4 7/31 by DoogsModels, on Flickr Here's a view of the R6 cannon gondolas...love the look of them. And I love even more that the barrels load through the front and can be installed at the end of the build. Bf 109G-4 7/31 by DoogsModels, on Flickr The iPhone basically decided last night that it couldn't meter worth a damn, so these shots show the gear bays significantly darker than the really are. But they're still too dark for my taste. Will lighten them up tonight. I'm also planning on jacking a pair of gear doors from the Trumpy G-6 since they actually contain detail. Bf 109G-4 7/31 by DoogsModels, on Flickr More tonight. Not long before I can start all the pre-paint hell work (filling, sanding, swearing)
