Hi fellow modelers!
I found this site the other day thorugh the Hobby Info plug by FSM and found my way over to this forum.
I'm a retired Marine 71'-92' started out in Crash Fire Rescue, than as a SSgt I lat moved to A-6 seat mech, to C-130 environmental systems NCOIC having work with all three active duty squadrons and closed out my career as VMAF-(AW)-242 first maintenance chief during the transition from the Intruders to the F-18D (Lawn Darts). Worked a few years with Lockheed Middle East at Riyadh maintaining RSAF C-130's, than with the State of Arizona on Death Row... as a corrections officer. Now I'm somewhat semi-retired here in Tucson but the wife keeps me busy on with her to do lists.
Been building models since JC was a private and that love of the hobby is still has strong to this day. I build mostly 1/48th acft but have slowly built up a collection of planes in other scales along with a few ships, German armour and Japanese GK figures to add to the mix, so many models so little time left. I'm currently working on the Airix 1/24th FW-190 for a group build over at the FSM forum, slow going but it's coming along. My other hobbies includes shooting, archery, collecting military art works and the dog taking me out for walks. It's good to be onboard here.
BTW my avitar pic is when I was with the California WW-II reenactment group some years back, the Kubelwagan was a restored 1943 vehicle.

Hello. Glad to have found this place and thanks to FSM. Re-started building after a 50 year hiatus (I'm 71). Been doing 1/700 aircraft carriers, especially USS ESSEX as I served on her in the 60's. Next build is a vintage 1957 Revell kit of ESSEX with her angle deck config. Got PE and aftermarket aircraft for her in 1961 when I went aboard. Want to do this one right. Will take the finished kit to the next ESSEX reunion ( I am on the board and asst treasurer), so it will be nitpicked by 250 real life judges - the ones that served on her. Wish me luck. EJ

Welcome aboard EJ!!! 50 years?!?!?! That's longest break I have seen so far. Mine was 20+ years. Hope to see your carrier builds. Glad to be here. Yup, I built that same exact kit (Revell 353) when I was about 16 years old, never knowing at the time I would actually serve on that old tub. It cost about $4.00 then. My kid got me the one in my stash for a Christmas gift. Cost him about $180.00. Plus - a PE set, decals, many resin aircraft - well you know the drill. After that, life kinda got in the way. Joined a local modeling club in 2007 and been going right along. Quite a learning curve from the 1950's!!! Got an ESSEX WWII 1/700 in the display at the LHS, a Titanic lifeboat 1/35 at the Public Library (a wood model) and a Yorktown CV-10 1/700 in progress. I'm a slow builder, but sure have fun. EJ

Semper Fi Scott. I'm a former Marine myself,83-88. I worked at El Toro before it moved. I remember the A6's from VMA 311,242 (?). Loong time ago. Worked the flight line there and down at Pendlton. Did some time at 29 stumps as well before going to Okinawa.
Glad to have you here.
Rob
