Hi guys , thought I would start my first blog on the site with this build . I have seen this built in 1/35 but have decided to try it in 1/72 which Im sure has already been done . Anyhoo its quite straight forward job of swapping the running gear on two kits namely Revells Jagpanther and Dragons Panther ............. So Im really only at 'the getting the running gear to fit part'.... its taking a little persuation but its getting there . With regards to the Revell kit .. on a whole it seems quite good but definately needs some detailing which I hope to scratch for the most part . Cheers Deano

Thanks Leon glad to have you here So the Revell kit comes with all the view ports moulded solid which is understandable in this scale . That is something that needed to be changed which led to me scratching some new ones in plastic card , I also cut some blocks to act as vision blocks. Its not the best but Im happy enough with it .................. I am still wrestling with the tracks btw ...hope I dont break em . This is a 1/72 project I am working on in the background and hope to finish it soon . Cheers Deano

Thanks T , I am really enjoying this scale and never thought I would . 1/35 is a better scale to display detail but 1/72 is such a quick fix it just fits my modelling needs at the mo . Leon thats some nice work in 1/72 my friend , the Ferdi dio looks great Cheers Bill glad you could join me . Deano

Deano, great work so far. Hadn't really thought a bout doing periscopes and view ports, I'm gonna have to give that a try. How did you do the camo on the Elefant? Airbrush, by hand? Jeff T.

Many thanks guys , appreciate your comments Jeff all the camo was Air brushed , something I was very warey of doing . You know , get to the basecoat and it all rests on the camo....if that goes wrong its a bummer. I spent longer on the camo than I would in 1/35 , guess I will get faster each 1/72 build .....hopefully lol Deano

wow Deano, those tiny tanks look awesome. Love the camo on the Eli, not easy to do in that small scale.
The JP is coming along nicely too.

What are you using for an Airbrush, paint, reducer, air pressure, ect, ect, ect. if you don't mind. I have been struggling with sprayed camo at this scale. Thanks. Jeff T.

Thanks Rob , glad you could join me Ah ha specifics Jeff ? Well this is only my third 1/72 build with the JP but heres what I use for painting them at the moment . A badger 100g AB with Badger compressor , I go between lifcolor and Vallejo for paint ........thinning 60/40 . Also low pressure , possibly 10psi but judge it to what you are working with i.e compressor and AB . The main thing is to be the lightest of light on the trigger and keep the AB moving . I know its not easy in this scale and I always get overspray with my painting , to eliminate the over spray I soft dry brush in the base colour . This is where the time gets eaten up as you may need to go over with the dry brushing several times before you are happy . Best thing to do and its what I do all the time is to practice on paper first and adjust to suit . HTH Deano

Time for an update me thinks , nothing spectacular to report but the build is still moving .... With this kit and most kits some basic modelling skills can make all the difference , I beleive that if you can make something more realistic by hollowing it out then its fair game. The shrouds......... I have also painted and fitted the running gear , those tracks gave me a good fight but I won in the end lol. I am very relieved about this , there is a slight gap in the join from the tension but I will find a way to hide this I have moved onto the rear plate and added some detail , if it aint tan coloured styrene then I have added it myself . Next I will move onto the engine deck , making some AA sheilds for the vents and adding grab handles here and there Cheers Deano
