Models of German equipment are very popular and often the modeller wishes to put his work on a base and further enhance this with a tag made from brass or something. A funny and difficult, yet distinctive feature of the German language are the so-called "Umlaute". You might know these from many brands: For international use some of these companies would simplify their name for the ease of pronunciation by leaving away the dots, like in "Durr.com". Strictly speaking this is wrong! It will cause similar problems for the people to pronounce the word properly, but the correct way of substituting the dots when your keyboard is lacking the crucial, well keys, is to annex an "e" to the letter "a","o" or "u". So the Aufklärungspanzer will become an Aufkl aerungspanzer, not Aufklarungspanzer. The practice ammunition is Uebungsmunition, not Ubungsmunition and an aircraft pitch elevator is a H oehenruder, not Hohenruder, and so on. BTW, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is the only correct spelling, it has never been "Göthe" and will never be! Of course you can write whatever you want, but for a native speaker the spelling above is much more appealing and he will instantly recognize the missing "Umlaut". If you have problems with the "ß", another characteristic, this is susbstituted by writing "ss", like in Panzerme sskraftwagen. And don't overdo the Umlaute, once I read "Hitlerjügend", which is funny at best! It's simply Hitlerjugend... Thought you might find this tip useful to give your final work the proper touch. Cheers, Tobi
