Flipping heck Boss just as I get me head around the KC97 a warbird turns up great weathering too. WWII Japanese planes flaked and weathered heavily, something to do with either rubbish or no primer coats. Still, with no armour or self-sealing fuel tanks, they didn't last too long in combat anyway Am I babbling? Yep, it's the Vino tino yer know

LOLOLOL! I have two 1/35 wingy kits. Tristar Storch and Bronco Piper. Camo paint on Storch would be fun... I have too many commitments right now. Duel with Dicky, then John (ogrejohn) and Ben. Another figure bust you are sending soon, right? And a helicopter I promised to build before the next show. Maybe I can sneak one in...

Nice progress Rob! Just be sure to love it and hug it and squeeze it so it doesn't feel neglected as you move around on your different projects.

wow have I been slacking. Gents sorry for the late reply and I do appreciate you all checking in and commenting here.
Marc, yeah bud I do a wingie every now and then, been about 11 years or so since. I build a lot of planes, ships, cars and trucks as a kid, and armor.
ok last night I applied some pin washes to all the panel lines, will see how that looks today, and then some weathering. I think this one is nearing the finish line.

Rob, George is looking great. Didn't take long at all to build this up. Just a quick ask though. How did you do the chipping? Hairspray , AK chipping, paint, sponge? Thanks, Rick

LOL pics later
Dan, not sure about the rudders, but I think even if they were canvas the paint would chip. Might have to rechip with a different color, just in case. I have no clue about jap planes

Sweet chipping Bud! The elevators and rudders were cloth on Japanese aircraft and the only places where the paint didn't fall off. Hope I didn't just make a mess of things?

Bugger! That sux Boss!! Always a pain to fix that kind of stuff too. If you are looking for suggestions, I would probably try polishing it out. When I need to repair canopies with heavy scratching or similar, I will start off with maybe 600 grit and work my way up through finer grades (I have Micromesh that goes all the way to 12000 grit), then Tamiya Buffing Compound and finally a dip in Future. Almost always does the trick! Might sound like a lot of work but it's really not too hard. As long as the damage is only on the surface, and hasn't gone too deep into the plastic, it should be all tickety-boo. You will obviously need to remask and respray the canopy framing, but I'm sure a man of your talents can manage that! Stuff like this is always a bit of a mojo killer, especially this close to the end (ask me how I know!!), but it would be a shame to not finish it at this late stage... Of course the other option is to rough it up even more, leave the canopy off altogether, and have it as an abandoned warbird! Hint, hint....... Either way, hope you get it sorted, Boss. Cheers, Sam

DAMN! Hate when it happens... too often at my end. Are there aftermarket canopy for this? I assume you want it done in time for the show later this month...
Everything else look GREAT! Makes me want run around and scream BANZAI!

That is awesome boss looks fanbloomin marvelous shame about the canopy 1 idea make it into a wreck as if it has been sitting at an airfield after the war waiting to be scrapped you could use the canopy but cut the piece out that is damaged to simulate broken perspex and then fix it to plane using pva also a tarp could be slung over the canopy to hide it? i can see it sat on one of your fantastic grassy bases would really set it off Dan B

Great weathering, Rob For the canopy you have, IMHO, only two choices: you get a polishing set like Micromesh and sand all the marred details to make it shine again you get a vacform canopy and throw away the marred one.

Maybe add some bullet holes in the fuselage to make it look like it's been hit but landed safe.!! Sorry all, haven't spent time at the bench today, been working admin stuff in the test/beta forum....the other side of running a forum, the admin stuff.

About the canopy: sanding, polishing and a coat of future maybe? I always read this would achieve wonders?!!
Another explanation might be that the Jap pilot was allergic against US planes, resulting in a huuuge blow of the nose when looking out of the window.
Or for the gory approach, you could cover up the mess with sprinkles of blood, maybe paired with some AA damage!
Cheers, Tobi
