My Airfix submarine came yesterday and although the sub looks great the stand / base is pants . I am looking for a suitable stand to use if anyone can help. Ideally I'd like it on two very small pillars that I have seen. I actually had a suitable base that would have been great but alas threw it out some time back thinking I wouldn't use it. Here's hoping one of you guys can help

Ian, have you tried a crafts store ? I would think they have wooden plaques and various wood or metal pedestals to mount on it. I know we have craft stores here that sell items that could be make into a base like that. That is what I plan on doing for my Arizona, whenever I find the instructions again to finish the model...lol

Hi Ian!! If you have access to a local hardware store of home good place...there are first, finials (Lamp necks and couplings as well as finials - www.theturnerslampparts.com/lamp-necks-and-couplings.html). These are the small fancy brass connectors that are used on lamps. There is a small threaded rod that has a nut with them. The finials are nice because they are decorative. If you want to go plain, that tiny threaded rod (lamp nipples - www.theturnerslampparts.com/lamp-nipples.html) is great for mounting and can be purchased separately. You can simply slide a brass, aluminum or plastic tube cut to size right over them before you tighten them down to the base. Some times a nice polish make the brass and aluminum awful purdy!! Stick an end in a drill and have at it with a sanding/polishing stick!!
