Inspired by Cee Bee's review and the excellent customer service from Airfix, I picked this up today I'm going to build her more or less from the box as research for the 1/24 scale build I'm working up to later this year . No sprue shots, Cee Bee's review covers it all. See it here : modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/thread/5597/review-airfix-hawker-siddeley-harrierSo armed with this I set about my kit. The office is well detailed but the IP is flat. Just placed a bit of .25mm white stock on it. the decal will snug down with Sol and give the impression of raised panels Seat in place, dry fitted only, some paint to go on yet CB warns us of a gap that will form in the UC bay if you follow the instructions so took his advice and joint these parts first. No gap! Cheers CB The bay is dry fitted to the intake to prove the concept. that's it for now. ACW as ever

Great start Steve! I really am a big, big fan of the new range of Airfix kits, I think they're smashing! I have the newer (from a real aircraft standpoint, not kit release) GR.7 and it's a lovely bit 'o kit! I would love to get my grubby mitts on a GR3 when they release one. Love that stubby nose!! Looking forward to the next installment mate! Cheers, Sam

Thanks for the great support guys Bill, yup I'm pulling all the stuff I need together for the 1/24 version. Etch from Flightpath is next in the list. May wait for the IPMS show at Telford in November for that as I'll get discount for a collect order. At £65 it's worth waiting. This new little kit has so many more details, I'll buy another to use as a guide/ pattern for the bigger one. thanks again guys... Update inbound tonight

Hey .. leave the Boss alone !! Don’t worry Cee bee , I’m diving outa the sun now .. and thanks for all the comments Update as promised guys. sorry about the pic's I rushed them off my phone , better ones when the prep is done Mostly prep work, Cockpit and seat have had their first coat of enamel As has the intake trunking and Fan face. The fan will have the blades picked out in steel Metalcoat Wing is in one piece Auxiliary intakes are simply superb fit is well up to Tamiya standards and the look the dogs doodahs Gun pods halves have been glued together, the seam filled and the simply detailed by drilling out the barrels and rear cooling duct. Still a bit of tidying here. Have to say. I’m loving this little kit ACW as ever

Wings in one piece... wish all plane kits are like that!!! Looking good... I still blame CeeBee! Well, they did start in three bits but, yup, not too taxing and, Yup .. all Cee Bee's fault. I'll be asking for my £10 to be refunded if it goes pear shaped

Yay, a proper Harrier Cee Bee does come in handy now and then, usually as a foot stool but this time he was even more useful ..How VERY dare you!!!!! .....Steve,you've made a great start,on a great little kit :DLike I said earlier,it'll be interesting to see how the engine intake etc, fits in to the fuselage halves, when she's all buttoned up?

That's what I thought.....Just one heads up,the gun pods might need a bit of fettlin,to get them to sit right on the fuselage. There are 2 v slight indentations for each pod underneath,I just zipped a drill thru,to make the location more positive.

Small update tonight fellas' Seat is as close to finished as I can get it, kit decals were a nice touch. Belts added with Tamiya tape and buckles are more tape painted silver, cut into small squares and applied. Whole thing was then given a Citadel Dark Wash to pull it together and seal it. Cockpit had the kit IP decals added with the aid of Sol then given a brush over with Citadel light grey wash. Intake duct was assembled after the Pegasus fan face was added. This was painted matt back, then when dry the blades were picked out with Steel using Humbrol paints. The rear half of the cockpit goes on next and your're left with this. You can see the fan from either side, just not both at the same time That's it for now. ACW as ever

Thanks for the compliments on the work so far Mark Yep, it's the Citadel figure wash, works well I think, you slosh loads of it on and wait for it to dry. It seems to shrink into the recesses. Ive heard good things about the new Humbrol range of washes too, might try them next time.

Thanks Andy The kit supplied decals are very detailed. I added a small square of thin plastic card the centre of the IP to give a bit of depth that decals alone don't give. Seems to have worked IMHO
