I want to get the new release... the Soviet Heavy Tank Object 279 but I see now that both of these 'companies' have it. So are they one in the same? Which would be packaged better? Are they part of the Trumpeter line? I was all set to get the Panda Hobby kit then I see Amusing Hobby has one too. Any suggestions guys? Jeff

Definitely not one and the same. No connection to Trumpeter, both are independent companies. Neither one are considered 'top line' producers yet simply because they haven't been around that long and are going through the usual teething troubles inherent with new model companies. I haven't built anything from either company but have heard of others having more issues with the Panda offerings (in 1/35, their 1/16 38(t) seems to be a different story). Pick your poison! There's actually a third one on the way as well from Takom if you want to wait a bit and see how things stack up between the three of them.

My money's currently on the Panda version... For me... Takom or Amusing, but NOT the panda, no way. Panda: Ugly surfaces, no clear parts, hard-to-use tracks and I think the "traditional" Panda style assembly guide (with lots of errors, missing parts), gun barrel in 2 halves, etc... Amusing: Nicer surface, clear parts sprue, workable track, nicer barrel... IMHO, wait while all 3 will be built by some colleagues and decide which you want

I heard "challenging", but IMHO it does not mean that for the cca. same price I have to buy the worse kit. Just check the pic. The "adequate" surface will be really "challenging" to remove from all (turret + body) surfaces, because it's not like cast texture, but more like a no-slip coating. The choice is yours... if You like "challenging" kits, go for the Panda

Good comparison photos!
Do you have a link or more of the 'original' photo?

I'm only asking myself why in the world there are three different kits of a thing that never passed the prototype stage and no decent kit of a T-54... BTW, Mokush you have a very nice avatar
