I've been wanting to try out Lifecolor paints for some time now and have ordered the Kriegsmarine sets and some thinner. I figured something small should do the trick while I'm waiting for the paint to arrive. With the evil influence of Rob, T, Bill and Dicky I figured Revells VII-C U-boat in 1/350 scale should fit the bill nicely. I assembled it over the weekend though it could have been done in an afternoon if I wasn't so lazy. So here is where I'm at now and going to primer it tomorrow. Hopefully the paint arrives soon. If these Lifecolor paints work out well I've got just the pocket battleship to use them on.

Thanks Bill! Hey Andy! It took a lot to clean up the bench after the mess from the T-62! Thanks Leon! I might be able to get some paint on it by this weekend. LOL, sundodger! Don't know how well I'll do using new paint and on such an itty bitty boat but I'll give it a go Dicky!

I finally decided to get off my lazy butt and try these Lifecolor paints. I got 2 different sets to try out: First up a nice primer coat. After about 48 hour curing time I shot on the DKM 50 Hellgrau silbergrau. I used the lifecolor thinner to thin the paint. I can't say I'm real pleased with how it went on. It was kind of splotchy sometimes and very wet. I got a few runs with it too. I might have had it a bit thin and maybe the pressure too high. Tip dry was a problem as well. Tomorrow I'll try things a bit different when I mask off the lower hull and shoot on the DKM 23 darker color.

Thanks Luigi! Welcome aboard! Dicky, thanks for the tips and compliments! I did drop the pressure but still had some splattering. I'm thinking that maybe I need to strain the paint before putting in the airbrush. When I was doing some hand brush painting (after I had already airbrushed the lower hull) I noticed it didn't look too smooth, like it was not mixed well or had small lumps. Still not too happy with the airbrushing but I'm going to keep after it till I bend it to my will! Andy! Hey I thought you'd recognize the poster! You? A ship kit? What is the world coming to?!?! We'll see if we can find you a nice carrier at the indy show. That ought to keep you busy! Thanks Leon! Well here is the lower hull painted. Looks like the paint held up well under the masking. Got a bit of bleed through but that's my fault. I should be able to finish her up tomorrow.

Nice building John!! Love these boats!! Fine work on the paint too...yeah, the darker tend to bleed before the lighter...usually this happens with reds more than the greys but it still does come about. Not too noticeable in the shot! Light think coats built up in the AB process can eliminate some of the graininess in the paint. I like LC paints...think these might be going on the X-mas list!! This reminds me I have a 1/72 version sitting on a bench in the cave waiting patiently!!

Thanks T! I'll give the lighter coats a try but I'm thinking something was clogging up the works. I gave the airbrush a good scrubbing and will strain the paint as I put it in the AB. OOOoooooo 1/72 scale Boot! Very nice indeed!
Bill, thank you kindly!
LOL Andy! Sure, a nice carrier with all them tiny wingy things ought to keep you busy! A nice Indy would be cool too. Academy and Trumpy both makes one.
Thanks Luigi!

I think it looks great!!! Being under COLD sea water it sure can take a toll on a boat when you can not paint in middle of winter. Can't wait to see it in person... if you let me? Yes, looking for Academy kit... it has better reviews than Trumpter. Please don't tell Dicky I said this. www.modelwarships.com/reviews/ships/ca/ca-35/350-acy/acy-review.html

Thanks Dicky! I thought they might get a bit beat up looking!
Thank you Leon!
Thanks Andy! I kind of thought I might have been a bit too much on the weathering. Yes, I'll bring it to the next AMPS meeting.
Academy does do pretty good on their ships. I've got a Perry class frigate in the stash I've been wanting to do.
