Wrapped up this project this week. This kit was originally released in 1974. Italeri re-released it as a "Vintage Edition" offering of 2,500 kits. For an oldie, the kit went together quite well. Only a few seams needed filling. The cockpit is a bit sparse and I added crew harnesses to the seats. The major drawback is the poor fit of the windows and canopy. Gaps and sizing of the canopy would have been a major project and I decided to just go with it as it was made. The kit could be finished as either the GO 242 glider version or the GO244 powered version. I wanted to go with the glider but quickly found the landing skid was damaged in the box. I used model master enamels throughout and weathered with AK washes and artists oils. Dust was applied using Tamiya weathering powders as was the exhaust stains. Chipping was done with alclad iron on the landing gear and model master aluminum on the nacelles. Since this aircraft began life as a glider, to reduce weight the fuselage was doped canvas over a metal frame and the wings were wood. Hence, chipping was limited only to the nacelles and landing gear. So, here is the Gotha GO-244 depicted as operating out of Crete supplying the Afrika Corp.
And here's a shot of the cargo. The kit included a 1/72 scale Kubelwagen to ride around in the back. I added the tie downs and tie rope in the back. I didn't tie down the front since it's not visible inside.
And last, here's where I shoot my "portraits". I use my spray booth and a gray posterboard. Three adjustable lights using daylight balanced bulbs and a Canon 60D camera. Just shoot and upload. Very easy. I have studio lights but this set up works fine most of the time.
