Many a late night spent on hooks reading "Just one more page." My personal favourite was Red Storm Rising- but I couldn't get into his more recent stuff- Splinter Cell and the like. RIP TOM.

Very sad indeed. Loved his Jack Ryan series as well as Red Storm Rising...I remember tearing through those huge books in order to see how the story would unfold. Clear and Present Danger was probably my favorite one of all.

One of my all time favorites is "Rainbow Six", was a fantastic read, and spawned some of the most successful FPS games for the PC. From Wikipedia: "Rainbow Six describes Rainbow as an international counter-terrorism operation hosted by NATO and funded by money funneled through the U.S. Department of the Interior.
The base of operations for Rainbow is located in Hereford, England (at the time, home to the SAS), due to the United Kingdom being one of the most accessible countries in the world and having one of the world's foremost special forces units. Most of the characters in Rainbow are American or British, though the NATO countries of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Canada, and the NATO ally of Israel have at least one representative each."The only book I have ever read that I felt I "couldn't put down". I remember spending an entire afternoon one weekend just reading the book! Never done that before and never since! I also bought a lot of the PC series of games, Rainbow Six (the original), Eagle Watch, Rogue Spear, Raven Shield and Athena Sword. I also bought Rainbow Six: Vegas, but never got around to playing it. The AI in the original games left a bit to be desired (early days!) but the latter ones were very smart, and your team would quite regularly pick off Tango's that you would miss. One of the things I loved about the games was the amount of pre mission planning you would have to carry out. It was quite complex, especially when you had a large mission like an oil rig or some such. Also, there was none of the "health bar" rubbish! One shot, one kill applied here, boys. I spent many an evening redoing missions when I missed a Tango and lots a team member (usually me!!). I would usually play the Australian character of Timothy Hanley, for obvious reasons!! Ahh, wot fun, good times! Shoot 'em up, pow pow!! R.I.P. Tom.....

Yeah, Craig Thomas is another great one! Really enjoyed "Firefox", and the follow on "Firefox Down" was even better. Two great reads centered around spy stuff, chasings and a super cool wingy, what's not to like?? Got the Clint Eastwood movie of Firefox on DVD, really must dig it out again and watch it some time.... Cheers, Sam
