Many of you may know I have something of a love affair with Friuls, and will build a model just to use them. Well, I have an old-build T72 with Friuls that I'm not particularly happy with, and a couple (actually 1 1/2) Tammy T62s in the stash. I'm wondering, when would one expect to see the later T72-style tracks on a T62? Could I get away with doing a Tiran 6 with the later tracks? I know the Tammy kit is a bit of an approximation, but I like the T62 an I had one partial kit laying around and picked up a complete one last month for little more than a song, so altogether I have less invested than a Trumpy kit, and I do like a bit of scratching.

After checking several references he found out that Tirans were made from the first batch of egyptian and syrian T-62 that mounted only the older generation of tracks. You can still do a syrian T-62 as they were refurbished after the yom kippur war losses with mod. 1967/72 models that used T-72 style tracks.

Luckily another friend, who's expert in israeli tanks, has added some info. It was very uncommon for Tirans to have T-72 style tracks, there are almost no clues they've ever used them. BTW, you'll need to change the sprockets to be able to fit the T-72 style tracks

Okay...... So, I can go ahead and start the basic construction, decide if I want to do a Tiran or a Syrian tank without committing until later in the build. I run across a Friul T55/T62 set every now and then anyway, if I want to go that way. That would work, and in the meantime I can go ahead and dismantle this T72 that's been staring at me for quite a while. I couldn't come up with a pic of a Tiran with the RMSh (I learned something today) tracks, so thought I'd best ask. Gents, thank you both very much.
