Nice work on the engine Carl. Make sure you chop up some odd bits of sprue and throw them down on the floor from time to time to keep the carpet monster at bay or he'll be coming for those tiny details!

Hi Carl. Not a bad engine, shame to have to hide it away on mine really ! I don't recall that little item.........best look at the instructions and sprue again Are you going to display it with engine hatches open ? Los here's what I read at PMMS review of this kit , 01585, by Terry Ashley . " Maybach HL 85 TUKRM engine: The Sd.Kfz.8 DB 9 used the same Maybach HL 85 TUKRM 185hp V12 engine as the later DB 10 but the engine in this kit is re-tooled and noticeably smaller than the Maybach HL 85 in the recent DB10 Gepanzerte 12t (kit #01584). I am assuming Trumpeter realized it was slightly oversized as the original engine simply will not fit into the engine bay of this kit but unless you compare the two engines side by side the different sizes is of little consequence. " That is probably why the small part is not in your kit .?

Eddy , thanks for the reference picture . I've been looking around the internet for photo's of the Maybach 8.5 liter engine but so far have come up empty . In the photo above is that the V-12 tilted on its side ? I see what looks like the port side 6 cylinders and what looks like the port side cylinder head . Looks like the head gasket laying in the foreground . Gawd , what a beast of an inefficient engine !

Hi guys ! I did a little on the model this week . The frame was a trick to get together due to all of the frame cross member parts that attach between the side beams . I stayed up late trying to get the frame assembled and realized I was about to make a mess of things so I packed it in for the night and re-evaluated the whole process the next morning . With a fresh out look it almost fell together ....almost . One problem area was the attachment of the pitman arms . It is a flimsy attachment and they soon were knocked off . I drilled out the ends with a .074 micro drill and inserted copper wire to reinforce the connections . The front wheels are slightly steerable after assembly on this kit . The steering linkage arm snaps onto the pitman arms . I used the reference pics that Eddy (thanks my friend )linked for me to do some detail plumbing on the engine . I scratched some detail on the magneto and used copper wire and .022 solder wire .Due to the extra detail on the magneto the intake manifold needed to be raised with some sheet plastic .That should increase the performance shouldn't it ? I'm going to get the entire frame and running gear / tracks assembled next before moving on to the body work . Later guys .

Deano , hopefully I'll be to show it when the body panels are on . Andy , I've always liked wiring . Even did some electrical on the house today . My wife , she has a lot of "honey doo's " you know . Bones , I'm trying to get by with a minimum of detail on this .Not sure how much will show in the final . Gary , its big clunking gas engine bro .The ignition wires run inside of a tube from the magneto and into the cylinder head covers . These were hemispherical combustion chambers a with a single overhead cam shaft to each bank . So here I thought the hemi engine was an invention from Chrysler ............

Replaced the molded spring detail on the suspension with .022 solder . The solder is softer than copper wire which made it easier to wrap around the delicate plastic part . Since I wrapped the solder over the existing plastic detail the part was larger in diameter and did not fit correctly so I filed it flat on the back to allow it to fit . Finished springs looks much better than the plastic detail which has a nasty mold seam in it ...2 of them .

A real disappointment in the quality of string that is provided in this kit . I'd of thunk that a better quality of string would be in an expensive kit like this . What is this stuff made from ? Wool maybe ! I replaced it with this nylon cord/string . Here's the finished cable with hook for the winch .No , its not a hangman's noose .
