Hi Jim? When I lay on the paint it goes on really as mist coats, especially the colour coats, the only heavy coats are the clear top coats.
The urge is to cover everything with the chosen colour as quickly as possible, go slow and lay on light coats slowly building up the colour and you won't lose the fine detail.
