Paul - The lines of this airplane have always enthralled me. How a weapon can look so, so sexy, is just one of those mysteries. Gents I apologize for the delays. I had a 2 million dollar embezzlement case recently handed to me as well as a computer fraud case from hell. Let's say simply I have 4 terrabytes of raw data that requires investigation and evaluation. Can you say overtime? Here she sits as of today using Tamiya XF 20 as a primer. The cowling and wing roots are baby butt smooth. Good thing I was a car guy for all those years. Bodywork doesn't worry me. G

G....Nice work mate,...but I have to say, when you see one of these up close and personal, they don't look QUITE so sleek.Every a/c frame was hand built/finished,so...a bit like your Shermies,no two were the same! ...I have spoken to fellas who flew these, and other a/c during WWII,and some fellas loved them, some said "NEVER AGAIN!!!",funny ain't it?

Thank you gentlemen for the support.
Cee Bee I have a friend who retired from the USAF. He flew F-4's, F-16's and briefly F-15's. He told me he had the opportunity to fly a P-51 at an airshow one time. Well we all know how the Mustang is lauded as arguably one of the finest fighters ever built.
Bobby said it was a stone cold ferkin' "B" to fly. He used the term "twitchy" and a whole lot of other unprintable expletives. Only spoke of that experience one time he did.

Here we are this morning. I despise decal tail stripes so I will paint the area and mask this off. Same with the wing leading edges. G

Missed your previous update... now it is starting to look like a little plane. Spits are my second favorite... of course Mustangs are the best. I am sure that our English bloke CeeBee agrees... LOL

G I know what you mean about 'twitchy'.A friend of mine knows the guy that was flying 'Big Beautiful Doll' at Duxford a couple of years ago, when the Skyraider over here took his tail off at the Duxford airshow.Apparently the handling characteristics change quite drastically, depending on the fuel load on board. It doesn't do,to try any fancy aerobatics until you really know the a/c. Here's a short clip of the collision www.youtube.com/watch?v=xctYWSuwoYA

I agree with you, painting and masking is far better than decaling. A little more tedious, but the outcome makes the hard work worth it.

CeeBee that is chilling video there mate. Everytime I stepped out the door it was on purpose. Curious, the Skyraider lost part of a wing and the Mustang didn't come apart. I could see daylight through the pony's tail though. Guess it would have come off in a few. Paint then, Silly Putty and lots of tape later. The raw results. I did not pre shade per se, I used a darker base color then went over that panel fading with a lighter color. G

Very nice work on the camo pattern there G! Shading work (whether pre or post makes no difference really) has paid off.

Thank you all.
Had a bit of a set back with this one. I gloss coated the plane, let it sit for three days and began applying the kit decals. Micro Set and Micro Sol had no efect whatsoever on the roundels and they would not settle down into the panel lines. I brought out my big gun, Solvaset, and proceeded to turn all the markings into wrinkled abominations.
I have a set on order and will commence with markings once ahain upon their arrival.
Stay tuned.

Most likely Luigi. The kit was obtained as a raffle prize at a local IPMS show.
I did notice that the decals settled into the panel lines well with the Solvaset, but like I mentioned wrinkled badly. I find wrinkling normal with the application of solvents, but usually the decal settles down. These didn't.

G There seems to be an epidemic of this going around lately...you are the third one today to report issues with decal refusing to 'unwrinkle' after being treated with setting solutions. It's a conspiracy I tell ya! Glad to hear you were able to source some replacements.

You know Bill the lack of humidity out here can contribute, but during the past few weeks it was a lot higher than normal.

100 miles in a straight line to the black mail box. 2 hours to drive though.
Actually it's all really pretty up that way, especially now. Lots of snow in the higher elevations.
