That's not a Corvette or a version of the Corvette, but a modified Corvette. In otherwords, not a legal production car. When they sell a thousand of them like the Hennesy Viper (218mph at Bonneville and over 200mph in the Texas mile) they'll be known as a production car. The ZL1 Corvette is rated at 200mph, and so is the standard Viper. The Viper GTSR is another animal. There have been a couple modified Corvettes in the past that claimed 200mph, and when tested they never came close. (Calloway for one). I like the new Corvette, but also like Vipers. The new Viper looks like the old one, but that's only skin deep. The new one has a chassis engineered in Italy, and is lighter in weight. Yet it's very stable at 200mph, unlike the Corvette. gary

I know squat about Corvettes, it said Corvette, i assumed it were a Corvette. I know fast when i see it.....and i saw it! Id take the old Crusty Nova over the vette any day! Always remember folks make all sorts of claims about just how fast their cars are, but when they have to prove this out 98% fail. At Bonneville the fastest stock bodied cars are the old Dodge Charger Daytonas with the big wing on back. Yet the AA class record is held by a Camaro. Why? Because no body has bothered to enter in the class; pure and simple. And even then the records are about two mph difference at best. When they decide it's time that record will be blown away as well. The newer cars are no faster, and often slower. When you speak of 200mph, making the car go strait and still be stable is the prime issue. That's where the Daytona excels with ease. In the world of sports cars, they do run a few Corvettes there, and when bad things happen they really happen. I remember a couple years back one went into a spin at close to 200mph. The air pressure built up inside the car and literally blew both the doors off the body plus the back glass. Guy was unhurt, but imagine his shorts were full! It's a rare thing to see a show room anything hit the 190mph mark. Myself, I'm more into roadsters, and modified roadsters. But there's always the lure of streamliners. gary
