Well it's been a while since my last aircraft but thanks to santa, aka mrs sniper I now have the perfect excuse to build a wingy thing. So Academy's F-4C fits the bill nicely. I just love the Vietnam colour scheme so am just itching to start this!

I like Phantoms... CHECK! I saw a real one in Georgia and took loads of pictures - if you need some, jsut tell me. ... CHECK!* My best friend always wanted to build one in this scale. CHECK! It has even my local area car code on its tail (FG = Freiberg/Saxony) ... DOUBLE CHECK! *Sneak peek: Good luck!

Hi Pete,
Nearly went for this last week in ChrisS's shop - the camo scheme really floats my boat too, but opted for the Meng Me410 instead as I have a 1/32 F-4J in the stash that really needs built !
Book marked, looking forward to seeing how it builds up.

Excellent! I just ordered one of these the other day and it looks really solid. LOVE the one-piece upper fuselage. Are the decals thorough or sparse? The way Academy hurls the stencils at their 1/32 kits I'm hoping for similar excellence downstream, but the image I've seen shows a decal sheet that's HK-levels of sparse.

cheers guys, Doog the decal sheet is stuffed with stencils mate, there are hundreds of em! I nearly fainted when I saw how many they are. G wow mate! awesome I better get this right then Right new year and finally some pictures, It's been a long time since I built a complicated jet like this so getting up to speed has taken some time but once I got my head around the build it's started to go well. First up the plastic is in three colours which reminds me of all those matchbox kits I built as a kid. However I'm not that keen on the black or white as it's the devils own job seeing any seams or ejector knock out marks. Also the black plastic parts seem to be slightly harder than the others. However the cockpit builds up nicely and the seats are adequate if you have the canopies down or as I will be doing adding the figures. I think with the addition of belts they would be fine on their own. The figures need a lot of clean up and the rear seat guy has been modified slightly. The main fuselage needed a very fine seam line removed from around the tip of the spine, this is tricky as it's very close to lots of fine details so a scrape with a scalpel and fine wet & dry does the trick. There is no cockpit side wall detail but if you are using the figures you can't see much of it anyway so I will not be adding any. The wings build up with no problems and have some great details which will really pop out under a coat of paint. Lastly the trunking, nozzles and intakes where sorted out. A few sink holes needed filling on the inside faces of the intake covers and I used thinned mr surfacer for the seams in the trunking. Again some nice details especially on the exhaust nozzles.

Wow, that one piece upper fuse is great! Hoping that's a trend with new kit tools. Can't wait to see how this builds vs the Hasegawa and Monogram C's.
