Hi there... Some time ago I got a white metal figure of a Roman officer made from white metal. This figure was a modellers friend heritage. Theres no brand printed on the box, and a title is missing, too. If anyone knows more about the manufacturer - thats much appreciated. The figure itself consists of numerous white metal parts and is highly detailed. As far as Ive seen it, they fit quite good together and theres only the usual sanding and trimming neccessary. The content: See you, Lucas EDIT: Lol... Just saw a print on the bottom of the socket - its an Andrea figure. Mea culpa!

Getting the pole together was a bit tricky. The main part is a brass rod, plus six metal discs. One of the discs contains the right hand of the Roman. Although the hand grabs a piece of the rod surrounded by smaller profiles, this didnt work here - the white metal is too soft. So I drilled this part open with a small drill and added short pieces of a paper clip here - thats much more stabile and fits perfectly into the hollow brass rod. Plus, the correct adjustment of the three parts (long brass rod/hand/short brass rod) works much better and is mor stabile than the other solution. The small chains on the bottom of the pole were closed with some Mr.Surfacer.

Making great progress here Lucas! The roaming Roman looks like he's got a brand new pair of sandals just for this.

The fur got a coat of Tamiya primer, then a custom made dark khaki color followed. This will be washed with brown washes several times, highlighted with a sponge, repainted etc etc. - loads to do here to get a convincing look.

More details (face, helmet, teeth of the bear)and the body is primed as well. Not much I know, but at least something.

Just a couple of thoughts: the model would appear to be a legionary signifer, late 1st to mid 2nd Century A.D.. ISTR, although Roman legionaries are conventionally depicted with red tunics, there used to be a school of thought that the rank-and-file wore white tunics with red reserved for Centurions. Also the box art shows what looks like a mask hanging from his belt next to the shield - while it appears some signiferii wore "Sports" helmets with masks, I'm not sure a mask would be appropriate to the type of helmet being worn. Unfortunately I can't be more sure without digging out some long lost references, and I'm probably out-of-date with current research anyhow...
Regards,
M

Thanks for the support M. I have to admit that I dont know very much about Roman troops at that time, the figure itself was a bargain. Anyways, heres some progress:
