I began the build before the holidays and being rather simple, had it finished in no time. With my daughter visiting one week and work being busy no pics were posted at that time. My apologies mates. The kit tracks were mostly unusuable. They had 5 attachment points apiece and one in three broke upon removal. I used a set of tracks from Masterbox, which, while lacking some detail, were much simpler to deal with. I did manage to get enough of the kit tracks to form lengths which will lie on the glacis as seen in period photos. Base coat is Floquil SP Dark Lettering Gray, a railroad color, which I think will look great under a worn away sand top coat. I'm again going with a enamel base with acrylic on top as I did with the previous DAK Pz I. I've looked at hundreds of photos online and have purchased two books about PzReg 5 in Africa. I still cannot get a handle on how these were marked once in-country and oversprayed with sand colored paint, if at all. I found a half azzed shot of one, presumably knocked out, which showed it had been painted sand over the gray and looked completely devoid of markings. No crosses were apparent, no id numbers or palm tree markings either. Oh well. The DAK palm tree was sprayed using a stencil and Tamiya Flat White thinned with laquer thinner. I'll brush some liquid mask over that before spraying a sand colored Tamiya mix later this month. G

I think it is as close as anyone can get straight from the bottle. I'm dying to paint something like a 38T with this color.

Very cool G! Nice work on that stencil, it looks like it was a decal but without the film.

Thank you all. It's been another hectic work week but that gives the enamel paint a chance to cure even more. I had all Sunday morning to myself so I dug right in with a painting session. I used liquid mask over the palm tree. My hi tech paint stand. A nice sandy mix of Tamiya Buff, Deck Tan and Flat White. G

What a great little build G. Sorry I'm late.
Andy, DAK? Was that a typo? Shouldn't it be DUK?

Thank you gentlemen! I told MrsG that I needed to sample several different brews as to fully ascertain which bottle would be the best for my needs. This is where we sit as of today. I start my work week tomorrow so I don't anticipate more progress for a while. I have jerry cans built and am playing with figures and stowage as we speak. After studying many many photos I realized that the crews of all the vehicles covered the weapons systems to prevent the ever present dust fouling the mechanisms. I used a piece of styrene rod, slathered it with putty and used copper wire for ties. Here's a couple interesting shots I took for size comparison. G

LOL! Great comparison between the little Pz I and the world best tank Abrams. It is funny that top of Pz I is barely taller than the rear of the Abrams hull.

Nice touch with the dust cover on the MG. Desert dust, as you know, gets EVERYWHERE without even trying. Nice to see it next to the modern desert warrior by comparison.

Fine Pz I. I've seen pics of DAK tanks running across the desert and the dust clouds were even bigger than what I had imagined...

Thank you for commenting gentlemen, you too Andy. I have to tip my hat to all the armored warriors past present and future. Those guys have balls. Here's a bit of an update regarding dust. I added some. Using pigments and acrylic thinner I "painted" dust into the nooks ad crannies. It is pigment after all. G

Right sharp G Where did you get the DAK palm stencil? I'm tired of dealing with the PC decals one finds in DAK vehicle kits these days

Man, this looks great! I've never used liquid mask over decals in fear of pulling them up - ever have any issues? I assume that you're putting a clear coat of some sort over them prior to the mask? Don't see this built up too often...maybe due to those tracks.

Thank you gents.
Tony, I haven't heard anyone say that since I left Missouri, makes sense to me!
Mark, I ordered a set from Alliance Modelworks #LW35019. The set contains several sizes of balkenkreuz and three different DAK palms. One has the palm tree and swastika as seperate pieces. Also Included are division markings from Operation Citadel. I really like using these.
Dupes, the palm is sprayed on with perhaps the smallest stencil I have ever seen. I used Tamiya Flat White cut with laquer thinner. I used AM tracks as the kit's were ridiculous.
