Thanks everyone for the encouragement. Nothing I felt worthy of pics tonight. I just slapped some masking on to get the insignia painted. Laid down the first color now I have to let that dry for a while before the next layer is done.
I cracked open a red bellied FW 190 and got it going, but I'll post a much more condensed WIP for it.

Nice work on the pattern and shading Jimmy. Definitely coming alive now!
On a side note today for some reason we were treated to a fly-over (I live somewhat near the airport for El Paso) of a B-17, came in over my back yard just as I stepped outside the back door as it was coming in to land and was probably at about 400 feet off the ground. Tried to get a photo with my phone but was too late on the draw.

First, thanks for the kind words.
Wow. I know that an impressive sight. We have a museum down in Galveston with a resident fortress, P-47, p-51 and some other goodies. Some of the Tora Tora Tora T-6 Texan "Zeros" are hangered near too. We got mixed flights over our backyard many times when we lived down on the south side.
Got the insignia masked up and painted completely. Lame pics will have to wait until tomorrow though. Finally got Band of Bros on BluRay so about to give it a rewatch.

Ok. Two nights masking, painting, drying, repeat and all the painting is done (minus a small touch up). Insignia courtesy of Montex Masks (also tail number, but it's not visible in the pics here). Alclad Gloss. Nice stuff. Performed much better than Future after the second coat.

Montex masks worked really well, the painted on insignas are much better than the decals.

Looks good with the markings on Jimmy. Would never be able to tell those were masked markings.

Decal time. I can't say I've ever had a positive experience with Hasegawa decals. I almost always have problems with them shattering. I really wasn't looking forward to using these, but I really wanted to do this particular aircraft. I couldn't find aftermarket for it either. Anyway, surprisingly, these decals went flawlessly. The initial application of Solvaset sucked them down beautifully. No bubbles, no tears, so melting, not a hint of silvering. I'm tickled pink. Post shot with Future (only because I need acrylic base for next weathering steps)...as expected the stuff orange peeled, but that will go away with following clears. See in the below pic...you can see silvering around the right horn....yeah...that's not remotely visible to my naked eye...go figure

Nice choice of nose art. I don't think the silvering will show after filters and weathering.

in the third picture looks more silvering but I think with luigi with weathering and washings and the decal will be lost and disappear seamlessly be integrated. great job it's looking very nice

Looks good with the markings on Jimmy! Spent 2.5 years at A&M before finishing at UTEP...so I guess you could say I'm a hybrid! Never could get used to the fact that the UTEP football game tickets were given away free to students though...

Never could get used to the fact that the UTEP football game tickets were given away free to students though... And even then they couldn't fill the stands I assume? Lol. I didn't even realize they had a team for some time...it's a whole different thing to the complete obsessiveness of Big 12 (and now SEC) football in Texas.

A couple of proof of life picks since I've not updated this in a bit. Missed a few nights of bench time as we were on a mini vacation over the weekend. Anyway, I had a setback with weathering. I had a horrible haze appear on the topside as I dot filtered...I had to do a substantial bit of touch ups on the wings and topside insignia, re-clear coat and take a different route with weathering. This one should be wrapped up in a couple of nights. The biggest problem I'm having right now is figuring out how I'm going to do the antenna rigging. It's pretty elaborate on this plane as I believe there's supposed to be three lines from the vertical stab....one to each wingtip and one to the canopy. I don't think stretched sprue is appropriate for this scale...at least not without having some sort of anchor....and I just ain't sure how to go about that....

Can't get over the fading green paint! Good luck with the antennas They seems they never like my fat fingers...

Jimmy, with regard the wireless aerials, have you thought of using ezee line.Comes in a few different thicknesses, and is elastic,so you can get tension in the lines. www.berkshirejunction.com/ezline.html

Jimmy,I've got both that they list, and the heavier one should work REAL nice on the 1/32 bird.Couple of ways of fitting it,but I dare say you'll have a handle on that already,eh? Looking forward to the 'Finished' item!!

Jimmy wow that's good looking indeed. Sorry I missed it until now. When I'm not on my tablet I have some pics of using EZLine stripped thinner. It will be perfect for the little kitty.

Ugh. I jacked around for 4 hours with aerials last night. I tried stretched sprue...kept breaking...I'd manage to get two on and BAM...break...I tried copper wire...wouldn't cooperate shape wise...so I'm going to order some EZ Line next time I make an online purchase and just add it later so I can move this one off the desk.... ALL DONE!!! What a blast this one was. My second completion of the year, but the other one having been mostly completed before moving, this one is special. No issues with the kit at all really. The seam where the tail section attaches needed some love, as did the seams in non-panel line locations around the rear canopy glazing. Time consuming, but not challenging particularly. Aftermarket: CMK Instrument Panel HGW U.S. Seatbelts (not pre-cut) Montex Masks Paints: Upper surfaces: Gunze Lacquer Under-surface and Interior: Model Master Enamel Alclad where needed Vallejo for detailed brush painting Weathering: Oil dot filters Flory Promodeler Wash (Dark Dirt) AK Interactive Dark Brown Wash, Streaking Grime, Track Wash Silver Artist Pencil
