I decided to start this project when I found the Orange Box Pz III e/f on sale. Many references later I achieved some sembelence of reality. Typical running gear.  Panzer Regiment 5 shipped the tanks over from Italy with plenty of spare track. This is one commonly seen way of transport.  Failing to find any spares and not wanting to buy another kit, I dug about and found my mold making material. Several pulls later I had the necessary spares.   Patience and a lot of test fitting yielded these results with the frame antenna. It's very delicate but oh so close to scale.   Here's the armored antenna cable cover.  G |

I was losing interest in building until my last two DAK panzers. I decided to let my interest wander and allow the MoJo to build back up that way.
This one's a fun diversion until my back ordered decals and resin arrive. Then it's another Sherman for BigJohn's GB and weathering all these backed up builds.

I raided the bead section at Hobby Lobby today and found some 2mm plated brass "crimp beads". They were a perfect fit for the antenna rod.  I added aluminum tube to the upright stantions, CA'ed the beads to that then threaded the rod through. The aluminum tube has a thicker wall so it looks more like the actual fitting.   I got the turret mostly finished and mounted.   The real tank did not have a cannon. It was a dummy and the only weapon was a single machine gun in a swivel ball mount. I cut a hole in the mantlet and scratched the MG mount from a spare engine piece, sheet and putty. I drilled the sight hole and a hole for the barrel. I'm using my trademark covered barrel. You can also see where I used one of my resin castings for the armored bolt where the hull MG was mounted, it was deleted on the real tank. They needed room for all the radios. G |

Thanks guys, this one has really pushed the limit for me. While this isn't all that complex, I find that I have done a lot of "thinking it through" after reviewing references. That's what led me out of the box to the bead aisle. I know I could have scratched that part another way and made resin copies, but this was easier. Ha, look at that. Outstanding find on the beads G, they rock Turret is coming along nicely too. What are you using for casting stuff? I used just plain old Alumilite that I bought at Hobby Lobby last year. I took the kit parts and created a mold from RTV rubber, then just mixed the resin and poured. It took a few tries what with airbubbles and all. Truth is I'm using so little resin in each mold, I mix it in a bottlecap, it didn't matter how many I made. G |

The drawings got me half way there, all the photos posted by you good people helped wrap it up for me. Just being able to see it in a real life setting gives a ton of perspective.

Thank you gentlemen, I am really enjoying myself with this one. I had a long week at work but did manage to get some things completed. I scratched the antenna troughs from strip and C channel. You can also faintly see the jerry can rack I added to the left fender.   Being an older kit some parts lacked detail, the jack block being one. So, I made one.  I used some small pieces of styrene right angle strip for the locator fittings. I'll make the strap from tape and fine wire. G |
