The Hawker Hurricane was a cutting edge monoplane developed prior to the outbreak of WWII. Britain’s need for a fast attack fighter plane was ever growing with eminent danger on the horizon with Hitler’s war machine building force. The first reliable single wing fighter developed by Britain proved to hold its own against the Axis onslaught. With higher speeds the Hawker Hurricane could now overpower Germany’s fast bomber squadrons and although the fighter was slower and less maneuverable than the Nazi ME-109, the Hurricane was much more rugged and went toe to toe with amazing results. The Hawker Hurricane was the mainstay for close to seven years. After the development of the Spitfire and other notable aircraft the Hawker Hurricane manufacturing was halted. The Hurricane served on every front of the War in Europe.
DVD Review
The Hawker Hurricane DVD has a run time just under one hour. The DVD covers the Hawker Hurricane from it’s humble beginnings brought on in the aftermath of the Great War. The beginning of the DVD shows much footage and information about the Bi-planes used in WWI and the progression up to the revolutionary design known as the Hurricane. There is a tremendous amount of excellent period footage of the Hurricane all supported by narration describing the planes various upgrades and fields of operation in great detail during WWII.
Conclusion
I felt The Hawker Hurricane DVD is a fine look into the history of this often overlooked protector of Britain. There is great deal of information surrounding the aircraft from the development to its demise in service. I would recommend this DVD to any one interested in this aircraft and the history around it.
