As promised here are some shots of the port side fuselage with camo applied. As mentioned previously this work was much more involved. I had to cut the mask into 4 separate pieces to get every thing to lie down properly. It took me like 5 hours to get ever thing just so.

Here it is.

Glad you like the mask/camo work. I did the port side fuselage a few days ago and will post some pics this weekend perhaps more depending on how far I get. The fuselage work was much more difficult than the wings.

To answer your questions regarding the mask. I purchased the mask set from Kenny at Gator Masks. As you may be aware he is well known for his Gator Glue. However, Kenny does aircraft and armour masks as well.

The Mask wasn't packaged in the traditional manor, ie. flat nylon card in a zip lock bag but was rolled up and put in a cylindrical tube. You have to unfurl it and cut the masks out of the sheet. I put weights on the cut out pieces to flatten them out and left them for a night before applying them.

Hey, Maybe next time Kenny will sample me a set given the props I am giving him.... just kidding.

Okay,

Back again with another update. I got the Hinomaru insignia's on today. I used Masks for this work. I also masked off and painted the anti-glare panel. I painted it first in  flat black and then lightened the black and sprayed another light coat along the top of the panel to give a faded effect.

Alrighty then. More progress. this time the vertical band on the rear fuselage.

I painted the vertical red stripe on the rear fuselage. I originally painted it straight signal red but it was too close to the colour of the hinomaru markings and I wanted it look more like the colour on the tail which would give a sense of field applied paint versus factory applied such as the markings. I added a bit of vallejo rust brown to the red for my mixture (same as the tail) and fired away with my airbrush.

Got the stripes on. I used the kit decals for this as for me it would be too risky to try and paint them on which if done incorrectly would have to be re-done which would mean destroying the camo work. I also got the prop painted Japanese propeller brown and also the red stars on the 20mm auto cannon ports.
