I hear you on those stripes Dave. Definitely not worth the risk and the kit-supplied decals look right at home with everything regardless. Very nice!

Hi Gents,
Thank you for the kind words,
AJC, I really like your work too. Your aircraft builds are inspirational too.
More updates soon. Just got to post the pics.
Dave.

Folks, a further update. I finished extending the white stripes on the fuselage to the rudder then laid down a coat of satin varnish in preparation for the wash to come. The objective of the wash is to bring out the panel lines on the aircraft and tone down the paint scheme. I chose a satin varnish versus a gloss varnish with the particular wash I used as as with a gloss varnish the wash would tend to settle in the panel lines and not tone down the overall finish. With the satin varnish it settles in the panel lines but also tones down the finish. I think in this case the process works as I had a bright NMF paint scheme and bright red Hinomaru's and tail. If I was say doing a OD or Luftwaffe scheme I would probably use a gloss varnish on the upper fuselage and perhaps a satin varnish on the lower/under side. Here are some pics of the work done on the starboard side. I think the wash sufficiently dulled down the NMF which gave it a more worn look. Let me know what you think. Finally I got the markings on the landing gear tires.

Always neat to see the latest updates on this one Dave. The satin approach should give you the effect/control you want, looking forward to more on this!

Thanks very much guys. Glad you enjoyed the build.
I sent dupes a pm to add this build to the MOM for August. Is this correct?

It is (and I just messaged you back a few minutes ago). Issue is, I'm not seeing any pics on this page? Is photobucket not loading currently?

I just tried some other threads, pics are fine everywhere else - for some reason it's just this one. Anyone else seeing pics pop up on this page of the finished build?

I have the pic's loading from Photo Bucket. No problem. I have a paid membership so it should let anyone see them. Dave.

Gents,
Thank you again. Your comments are very much appreciated.
As I said previously I wanted to contribute on a subject I don't think we often see to much. JAAF aircraft seem to be a bit of rarity in the modeling community. It's nice to see Jeff the 57th's build of his Ki-44 Shoki which I think gives the subject some more exposure.
I am going to do more JAAF subjects in the future as well as IJN aircraft too. Stay tuned.
Cheers, Dave.

Wow. This is just a superb build. Absolutely gorgeous. I hope Hasegawa pays you a commission because you just sold me on this kit. You're so right too. Not near enough Japanese stuff being built in this scale around the forums. Thanks for sharing it with us!
