Yesterday, while I was commenting on a different thread here on MSC, I realized that there are only 70 (now 69) days to Armorcon in Danbury CT. This is one of my favorite shows of the year, so I made the decision to set aside a couple of in progress builds (aircraft) to try to get a few builds done for the show. This year's show theme is 'Light Tanks' so I wanted to build something that fit the bill. I found the perfect kit - one that I had built in college as one of my first steps to get 'back in the hobby'. This is the old, Old, OLD Tamiya kit from 1971: There really is not much to the kit: This kit was made back in the days when Tamiya didn't bother to number the sprues, just each piece. First thing, gotta fill those sponsons: No other pics right now. But, being one of the early Tamiya kits, you can sneeze and put it together. I mean, heck, I think I stumbled on the stairs and six pieces went together!!

This is going to be a pretty straight forward build. I am not going to get too worked up about fixing the accuracy issues with the kit. What I do want to do, however, is try to replace the tracks. Anyone have any ideas? I don't want to spend much on this, so I'm hoping maybe to find a set of Magic Tracks that, maybe, someone, somewhere does not need???

Count me in!!! Can't wait to see that little Pz II of yours in person if you can finish it in time. Yep, I will be at Amorcon and NO I am not going to help Dupes carrying and loading his stash into his car.

I have a set of panzer II magic tracks if you want them. They are for the Dragon kit so don't know if they will fit. PM me if you want them.

I mean, heck, I think I stumbled on the stairs and six pieces went together!! So you're saying that all you need to do is walk up and down the stairs for a while and this will build itself? Exercise AND your build output will go up!

Did some more work tonight at the model club meeting. Got the lower hull done, now I have to do the upper. Problem is that Dupes mentioned the Eduard PE set for this kit and now my mind is churning... Do I? Don't I? Do I?? Don't I??!! As far as color goes, I think I want to do both - I've seen a bunch of photos with the worn desert yellow showing the grey underneath. Think I'll do something like that. Now, if I could just decide... Do I...?! Don't I...??!! DO I...!!!!! DON'T I....!!!!!! AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Curse you DUPES!!!!!

Aftermarket FTW! You know you can't pass it up. Get the barrels, too. And some DAK stowage. Maybe an Alpine crew fig?

The main gun in the kit was all buggered up so I tossed it. Figured, well, in for a penny in for a pound, so Eduard PE is on the way too... What have I gotten myself in to!

I wouldn't sweat the Eduard set for this one too much but it should add some nice detail for sure. Ditto on a replacement barrel. Looking forward to the DAK treatment!

Bill I agree about the Eduard set, but there are some pretty 'soft' details on this one that the PE set seems to address, so what the heck, right?

If the kit decals are crap and you don't have any newer ones to source somewhere, let me know...I'm sure I've got something in one of my DML boxings with a markings mega-sheet you could have.
Heck, or you could use stencils!
