Over the next year or so I intend to complete several obsolete California Highway Patrol vehicles. So far I have completed the 1932 Ford coupe. I am starting on a 1950 Oldsmobile. The Patrol used both the 1949 and 1950 models.
The basis of the model is this:
'
When finished the model should be substantially similar to this:
One of the first things to be done was to remove the molded chrome trim from the doors of the model. This has been done routinely by the CHP to prevent trim from interfering with the door decals.
I have prepped, painted, assembled and wired the engine.
That is where the model is as of now. I'll post more progress as appropriate.
BTW: In the photo of the 1:1 car there is what appears to be a radio antenna mounted on the L/F quarter panel. To my knowledge the CHP never had commercial radios mounted in their units. Does anybody have any idea what else this could be. If I can't identify the structure then I intend to leave it off the model.

A bit more progress yesterday. The interior is finished.
It is pretty plain, but that is how it was. CHP never paid for extras or "comfort" options. Plain black painted trim, black rubber floor mats, plain gray upholstery, etc.
After doing the work to detail the engine, I was a bit disappointed that this is all that shows.
Here is the first mock up showing the stance with the body mated to the chassis. I think the stance is pretty much right on. That's it for now. More as appropriate.

Finished the Oldsmobile this morning.
I'm reasonably happy with the final outcome, but it does have a couple of problems. I will keep it as a shelf model, but it will not see a contest this year. This will be my final CHP vehicle for a while. I have to get back to the Frenchie's diorama. Comments, questions, suggestions, criticism and friendly ridicule always welcome.

I love this, the detail is spectacular! I am more used to a '56 or '57 Buick as a Highway Patrol car from the '50's TV series, "Highway Patrol" but this is equally as good and got me thinking I need one of my own! Nice work! Jeff
