Thank you, my friends! The project started some years ago, but I try to come back this year and put an end. So, first some explanations about my painting process. For the chainmail shirt, I applied a recipe of a Portugese friend: Black, Black + Natural Steel, Natural Steel (lights), Silver (extreme lights). In the holes I applied a well diluted wash (my flow Liquitex solution used also at the Polish Hussar 80%+20% Black+Blue Ink). The helmet has suffered some more pronounced drybrush with Silver on the edges. In garments, I tried to play with some special colors: 950 (Black) 867 (Dark Blue Grey) basis, then came a little 898 (Dark Sea Blue) which explains the bluish, greenish easily tone. At the under shirt of mail, for the base color I added 870 (Medium Sea Grey), the lights only with 870 and extreme lights with Light Grey (990). Some things have been pushed too far, I rebuilt blending. I'm not content with the face, I still have to some blending in order to reduce too the powerfull Reddish colour on the cheeks. For the belts I used Cadmium Red + Orange diluted wash Brown Orange Brown + wash Model Air Burnt Umber. At the inner tunic: Iraq Sand + successive glazes of Orange Brown, Beige Brown, until I was satisfied and I stopped. The handle of the sword: Pale Sand + washes Orange Brown + Model Air Burnt Umber, I made after a light passage with a well diluted Black Ink wash. Sheath sword: layers of Beige Brown, Cadmium Red, washes Orange Brown. As I was not very satisfied with the result, I made appeal to Scale 75 set dedicated to wood (Orange Leather and Brown Leather), underlined the contrast and then, with a diluted wash of Brown Ink from Vallejo, make some filter in order to unify the tones. The outside of the shield has received several coats of Blue (Medium Andrea Black Medium + perfect little), I tried something gradients, watching how the light falls. I have to work. The interior: Iraq Sand + Brown Orange + Model Air Burnt Umber. Small stripes of wood made with Brown Beige, worked with an excellent brush Leonardo, series 10, no. 1 (the shield was perfectly flat, I tried to obtain some texture). I still have a lot to work to the the face and try again to make the blood traces. After all these will be finished, I have to think to the cold winter groundwork. Cheers! Nicolae And some photos with previous different stages of my work:

Hi, my friends! As I expected, I will pass to the next year with my works. Even that at some of them, like this Teuton, I had only a few steps. Today, I prepared the terrain (next time, I'll put the grass, the tufts and the snow), remade the face (si more natural now, still a problem with the left eye), it takes me some good hours. The result is above. Cheers, NIcolae

Nic, this figure is cool in some way. Please let me explain: First, I love the paintjob a lot. He has this "used" feeling, is battleworn and the colour composition looks fine. I guess the Base will be top detailed when finished! The figure sculpting leaves me a bit disappointed. The Face is killer, absolute stunning and grim looking, no smile (great!), the hair is absolute fitting to the face. But I think, the Body is a bit anatomically uncorrect (maybe I am wrong, but I have this feeling about it) and not as detailed as I would expect. Your paintjob bring all sculpted details out nicely, the figure itself is a bit, hum, you know what I will say. Who did the figure???

Thank you for your kind words, I still have some details to put in correct shape. Frank, the Teuton Knight is produced by Ek Castings (http://siberia-miniatures.ru/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=18&products_id=311&osCsid=6be42c8961b411fb7cb0affd490d6c85). It's a Russian brand specialized in metal copies, good price, let's say acceptable quality. But if you make a closer analyze, you'll surelly discover enough thinks to not be very happy. It's not a Pegaso, Romeo, Art Girona, not even the new Russian Chronos, Tartar, Irbis Miniatures. For exercice, they are good. Some of their figurines are ok, but they miss some important details which will limit you as painter no matter how gifted you'll be (you can see what a very well sculpted figurine means, some work of my weekend figurine painting partener: www.cartula.ro/forum/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=110606). I bought some years ago a 6 figurines stock from a friend, I made already the Polish Hussar, the Teuton is already done, the Norman wait to finish his flag and find an adequate base idea. I used them to learn and practice. Cheers, Nicolae

Ah, I see, what a cool idea to take such figures as a practise! Yep, no Pegaso or Andrea (but I have seen figures from them, not as good at all!) but as said, I really love the face! Now lets see what you will come up with when this guy is finished! I am very curious for your Base ideas...

Thank you, Jeremy! Frank, the face was the principal element that caught my eyes to this figurine too! I have another three interesting figurines, but... everything at the right moment.

Nic, I know these problems! I have tons of ideas for new figures but could not find the way to sit down and start doing it. Same goes for my paintwork. So sad (but right now, after writing here, I will relax and start again finishing something). Will post in the next days of cause!

Happy New Year to everyone! After a good time with my family members, I'm glad to had some 4 hours to work at my final steps. Well, I still have to work a little to the snow and to make some changes to the face in order to put a decent end to the Teuton project. Here are some photos, I'll be back next days with details. Cheers, Nicolae

Hi Nicolae, He has certainly transformed a great deal! I really like the colours you have done on his face, he looks very grim and battle hard. The addition of the snow gives the small scene that little something extra, which product did you use for the snow? Almost on the home stretch, good luck with the rest! Shay

Hi Shay,
Thank you for your kind words. The idea was to try something else, I was tired of the same heraldic representations, black and white blendings etc. So, after some research, I decided to make something related to knights originary from Hesse or Thuringia, in a Livonian field (Baltic Countries), after a battle in a winter/beginning of spring weather. Still cold enough (which explain the livid face) with snow starting to dissapear, with some elements of sprouting. For the snow I used White Glue+ Water + Agama 51 P Satin varnish (but I guess any gloss will be just fine)+ Gale Force Nine form Hobby Scenics which is an amazing product. The result was fine but let me the impression of a very realistic snow but too frozen. I want to have some little wet aspect, so I put with my brush some AK 079 Wet Effect Fluid (enamel), I like the result on the rocks but seems to me to yellowish a little the snow. So, I'll make more experiments (it's my first with the snow!). Hope to be usefull! Cheers, Nicolae

Andy, you noticed well, I didn't write about it. First, I applied again the AK Wet Fluid on stones, around the spots of snow and on the uncovered soil. I got the idea to give also some to the legs. Then over blood stains on the shield to put that blood in a better light. Well, it worked! I don't know if I was told you that an easy yellowish effect had already appeared on the snow, I still can't find the explanation. So, I made again the mixture last time (glue + water + Agama 23 L Clear Varnish + Snow from Gale Force Nine) and I applied it on the branches, legs, on the center of snow spot, shield edges. And very fine points on several sides of my Teutonic garments. I have to focus on the left eye, painting the base with a black primer and varnishing it and that should be all. Cheers, Nicolae
