Eduard's 1/48 F-4B Phantom

Hey everyone! This is my build review of Eduards 1/48 Phantom. I'd first like to thank Scott for the opportunity to review for Inscale, next I like to thank TRM for concocting this scheme and to Adam P for surrendering the kit, albeit with a smile! LOL!!!
Ok as per the directions construction began with the office. Some cutting and grinding are in order for all the PE and resin to be installed and is clearly marked out. The fit of the sub assemblies near prefect, the only problem was the locator post on the control column needed to be removed so the PE instrument could sit correctly. One other thing I noticed while building is that the side control counsels are not labeled on the directions (rather odd for Eduard), not a big deal for those who have experience in building aircraft, but for someone new, it would be over looked. All in all the build is going great! Will have some paint and weathering shots soon! And here is what I have so far.

Hi folks! Cockpit is nearing completion! A coat of MM Dark Gull Gray was applied to cockpit tub and all the PE was put into place using Gator Glue. As usual Eduard's PE is a pleasure to work with, the side control counsels and instrument panels fit with no filing or cutting. And without saying once together the office really looks the part. The only thing missing was the throttle controls, so out came the evergreen. After some cutting, sanding, and shaping the throttle controls are now represented. Just a pastel dark wash left and it's off to the races! Here's the office as it stands.

That looks real good,I have not built a Phantom since the old Hasegawa kits.Does Eduard include all of that Photo etch like in their Profipacks or did you buy it separately,maybe I have to add one to the stash

Thanks Anthony! This kits pretty good, haven't built a Hasegawa F4 so I really can't compare....yet. As Dupes said it comes with alot of goodies. Here are some pics of said goodies.

Hey Everyone! Short one here. I applied dark pastel wash to bring out some of the highlights. With that done the cockpit is now officially done.

Ok I'm back again after a short break! Next on the list was assembling the rear landing gear bays and landing gear. The directions have you assembling the six piece bay separate from the wing, after trying this way I found that assembling them on the wing was easier. I found it curious that the gear struts are apart of the assembly process, and it is near impossible to get the struts in to the gear bay if you do not put them in.
There is a small discrepancy in the directions that shows the wrong placement of parts F44 and F45. Now since the directions are a copy of the Academy directions, I was able to get a pic of the exploded view from the Academy directions. Thankyou Adam Phillips! Once proper placement was achieved I closed up the the wings and added part of the intake assembly. Here are some pics!

Pull up seat Doog! Yep the engineering is a bit head scratching but I'm loving the challenge! I'm trying to make sure that I get all the quirks pointed out and how I fixed them.

Hi folks! Ok! Sorry for the wait, build time has been a bit slow but got some good time in and here are the results! PE for the canopies and fuselage are on. Cockpit is wrapped and that nasty seam line is sanded down. The forward fuselage on my kit didn't want to close up and I was perplexed on why. After a dozen or so tries of dry fitting I finally figured out that the right hand side of the rear instrument panel was sitting too high and causing the nasty gap. So a little snip and glue, the fuselage fit right together! There was a bit of a over lap as the lower was a bit smaller than the top. Next came rear lower, which went together rather nicely. Wing joints and roots are nice and tight. there was however small gap where the lower rear meets the lower front. A little of filler saved the day. Now on the to those pesky intakes. All the reviews are spot on as far as the fit being poop. I was able to clap everything and close the gap where the intakes meet lower fuselage, but it ain't pretty! For anyone wanting to take this beauty to a show, alot of rescribing will be needed! And after all the whoha, paint has been applied and looking sharp. Ordnance is also painted and put in place. Ok here are the pics!
