SUPACAT JACKAL BY AIRFIX

This is a 1/48 scale Supacat Jackal released by Airfix.



It has one main item that needs replacing.....the tires so I will replace them with new resin ones.



I will be also adding some PE details from BlackDog.



Here are some images of the contents of the box.

Ok the first order of business are the suspension assemblies.











Some serious ejection marks to remove.









These are really detailed, but really delicate.

Mounting the supension units in lower hull.



Then things picked up steam. I finished the lower hull and interior floor assembly and painting. This needed to done before moving foward.

Those wheels are huge improvement... wish they all come in the box that way!

There is no way that tread pattern could be injection molded.  I think I paid about $7.00 for the replacements from Gasoline.

Agree with Andy, tires are a big improvement and the work you've done on the chassis and floor pan looks good under paint. Keep it rolling!

Now we begin to build the cabin. It is also time to break out the detail stuff because a lot of it will be worked into the assembly as we go.



The first part of the interior is drivers compartment back wall and roll bar.







Some detail items are added and painted as we go because things will be too confined to do it later.

Just a quick heads-up - if you're thinking of adding the crew figures this HAS to be done at an early stage and the vehicle assembled around them.

Basically the set is designed for a diorama with figures changing a wheel on a Land Rover with the Jackal crew mounted on overwatch.

Thanks!  I decided not to use the crew.

Well here is the first of the PE.  The next step is adding the side walls of the crew compartment.  On the outside is a cargo net that is molded on.  This was removed and the PE version installed.  A very interesting part to form.

WOW! Huge improvement using PE for the cargo net... no kidding!
