Hi everyone! Just something new, not too many steps (the metalics on the armour reworked du a). I've got some busy days and not many time to spend with my Legionary! Cheers, Nicolae

This is coming along nicely for you Nicolae, it is a shame that busy days get in the way of modelling. I look forward to more posts from you. Dennis

True metal is ever difficult to paint, isn´t it? I admire the guys who can paint nmm, this is the masterclass. But I love metallics, anyway how they are painted. I remember me doing them with coating them black, than drybrush gunmetal and silver over the black, done! Great, huh? Anyway, now we do them completely different, with tons of layerings or colours which can be polished. Times have changed...
You hit the nail on the head, metallicly spoken, with your armor. Looks way good, several shades, smooth and crisp. I am just wondering if the guy wearing such armor has some kind of patina on it? You know, this greenish blue stuff on elder and used metal plates.

Andy, thank you, I'll put an end later, I had two weeks of fire coming and no more time of working to the bust.
Frank, your question is well raised. Actually, in reality, this effect is not visible, but the photo looks contrary. I'll try reduce the effect. Cheers, Nicolae

Nico, seems that you are a guy like me, considering a figure NEVER finished. ARHG, so much pain in this sentence, I guess... But it doubles the fun!

Dennis Well, Dennis, just a small pause, but after 15th November I'll push hard to finish it. But it's just the second my figurine, I'll have to paint more in order to feel some evolution. My warm thanks for your friendly interest!

Nico, seems that you are a guy like me, considering a figure NEVER finished. ARHG, so much pain in this sentence, I guess... But it doubles the fun! Frank Frank, what is funny in our hobby is the fact you never succeed to bore. And the quest for perfection is doubled by making new friends, feeling alive and learning non stop new things. For me is great! Even that is my first bust of these dimensions and was a really challenge to jump for 54 mm to 200 mm, I don't have regrets and passion is still the same. Warm regards! Nicolae

The Creativity keeps us alive and kicking. I like -just all other fellow painters and modelers here- to put everything I can into my work. Hoping to finish something is one side of the medal, TO DO it the second, harhar, but all the fun I get from sculpting new stuff is sometimes more than finishing elder ones. Heck, becoming philosophic is another hobby of me, yep! And the fact to meet new friends from around the world can´t be beaten. To say the truth, I haven´t feel this more than here.

I am just wondering if the guy wearing such armor has some kind of patina on it? You know, this greenish blue stuff on elder and used metal plates. Frank It's unlikely there would be any patina. Romans put a lot of time into looking after their kit. For one thing, it was their own property - ISTR there's records of deductions from pay for their equipment; they could "customize" it within reason, or trade it in and upgrade during the course of their service. IIRC, there are surviving helmets with more than one owner's name on them. Surviving shields are intricately decorated - although it used to be thought these were parade items they're more likely for everyday use, certainly shields had leather covers, presumably to protect the decoration except on parade and in battle. It does appear to have been a bitch. The Corbridge examples were awaiting repair. The bronze (or copper alloy, as the current usage would have it) fastenings between the plates were very flimsy and broken examples are one of the most frequently encountered finds on military sites. Presumably there was a reason for this, but those on armours built by modern re-enactors are a lot more sturdy... Cheers, M

M, that sounds interesting! It shows, that the romans have done merely the same than every soldier in every conflict: worked with what they got. Maybe doing some battle damage on the stuff could be wise or detailing figures a bit more with extra stuff. Heck, I must think about this well because I have a lot of PREISERS Adam and Eve kits in my stash (you know, these generic figures which can be build into everything!)
