Andy, It was a small but very enjoyable show. Thanks to everyone for the feedback on this project and I'm now trying to decide on the base/groundwork. I can either build a trench wall behind him OR have him standing in a row of barb wire. Any thoughts??

Looking at the figure's "relaxed" posture... I would be thinking he is standing somewhere safe behind a trench. I am afraid it will require more work than a row of barb wires?

Time to start working on the section of trench wall (good call, Andy!) behind the figure. I have not yet started the painting of the pants, puttees, boots, or helmet yet as I need to secure the figure to the base. As soon as the basic layout is done he will be secured and painting can resume.

First steps in creating the trench wall backdrop for the figure. Basswood planking cut to size and trench support poles (driftwood) added. Epoxy putty sandbags are curing in place. Basic painting and weathering begins...

WOW! The trench looks amazing already and it only took you like an hour to come up with this? How do you like that Vallejo Dark Earth? I got Desert Sand recently... am anxious to try it.

Vallejo Dark Earth is my favorite groundwork, mud effect product! I always add real dirt to the mix.

Getting closer... puttees painted with Vallejo English Uniform and Light Mud mix and stained with Burnt Umber and Camo Black Brown. The pants are a mix of Andrea tones from the Black paint set. The helmet is Vallejo Grey Green with washes of various earth tones. Final details soon!
