What started out as this in 2007. and was going to be a kit Got cancelled and turned into this in 2009 Got put on hold further still until last weekend. ARISE necro model. Let's wash the dust off this old beast. The last of the tubes and minor correction have since been installed and I hope to start painting it soon. Soon could be 6 months in the scheme of this project.

I remember this from your old site. Weren't the legs made from some sort of drafting tool? Even if it's not a kit, it should be an award winning one-off in the Sci-Fi section.
Where did you get the figure?

Thanks John. Legs are full scratch build from rigid urethane foam masters and epoxy. I made a mold and cast up a couple of sets.
The figure is from Sweetcorn Studios. Look him up on FB.

Man...that's some awesome scratchbuilding. What happened to your plans to turn it into a kit?

Thanks everyone. I'm excited about getting this started again. What happened to your plans to turn it into a kit? Ran into licensing issues using Nitto parts. Didn't want to deal with it at the time.

Huh. What percentage are straight-up kit sourced parts?

Huh. What percentage are straight-up kit sourced parts? Nothing is straight up but the licensing rules at the time did not allow you to use ANY Nitto part. The head on this is a modified Nitto Neuspotter along with other Nitto parts used here and there. I think some of the over reaction has eased over the years, but back in 2008 things were very strict. Now it's one of a kind. Thanks Leon.

Looking good this old school painted spider. Tired of airbrushing? Or just want to go the Japanese traditional (MAK) way? In that case don't forget to put on your Kimono. =)
Marcel.

The idea of painting this in the current armor trends gave me hives. Can you image masking, airbrush modulation, hairspray chipped paint, and all that other stuff on this? I didn't think that finish would capture the feel of the original illustration. It would feel too stagnant. The recent Kow's How to Build Mook sure did help with inspiration, but I've been planning this way for a while. I have a few other hand painted models and it's my go to technique when the weather is too cold to airbrush in the garage. I airbrushed a dark brown base coat a month ago when we had a warm spell. No kimono, flannel PJs.
