Hello All!! After much postponing, laziness and coercion by vlpbruce, I am finally posting a model to the forum! I've always wanted to do a F86, but never had the urge to get a kit. Tonight at the shop I picked up a HobbyBoss kit, which is quite nicely molded (which is of no surprise to me, having built their FW190 D9). For this build, I am going to attempt to use Bare Metal Foil, something I've wanted to do for a while as well, but never got around to. Since I love the look of a very polished out jet, (and I think f86s look the best like this) I will be experimenting with the foil. Hopefully I will be able to get some work done over the next day or so and upload my progress (and start another build thread for my sdkfz 222)

VERY interested to see how the BMF works out for you. What could be better than metal to look like metal?

I'll be watching to see what you do with the BMF too. On 1/72!!! Someone's brave.

So are you foiling whole sections, or individual panels?

Dupes, I started it by foiling individual panels, then decided to try larger pieces, and I was unable to notice a difference. I'm sure that if I did this to a larger model (and I'm thinking an F-104 all foiled up would look cool ) individual panels would be the way to go. -Alex

Thank you Leon! I just got the decals on last night, heres a shot of in progess (starting to look like a sabre!) and with all the decals on her. I will hopefully get the canopy on tonight and start with some of the washes (provided I am not too distracted by the Walking Dead) Also, I scribed and pre buffed the panels before applying the decals. My buffing compound was Crest Wintergreen toothpaste with Scope and I applied it with a cotton swab, buffing each panel in a different direction. -Alex

Looks fantastic! Funny, all these years I have been using BMF, just never for its intended purpose! Now I will have to add it to the list of things to try! Can't wait to see the finished bird..... Cheers, Sam

Dang. That looks GREAT! Do you have to do anything to help the decals adhere to the foil?

Nope, just put the decals on the foil, and then some solvaset on them. They seem to lay and adhere well.
