Jimmy that engine is somkin'. What did you use for the cylinders? I think they look great. For the wiring... why not trim that first step off to give you a slightly bigger spot to get a wire in there/ No one will ever know. Especially if they don't read this. If you wire that up it just might start.

For the wiring... why not trim that first step off to give you a slightly bigger spot to get a wire in there/ No one will ever know. Especially if they don't read this. If you wire that up it just might start. I actually considered that. I compared my smallest drill bit and decided I thought there was too much risk of going in at an angle and ruining things. Nice thing about the Trumpy kit being a little less accurate I am wiring this sucker right now though. I figured out something else. I hope to have pics up tonight or in the morning. The cylinders are Alclad duraluminum. I used three shades of Alclad on the engine and firewall compartments to vary things up a little bit. Details on the weathering in the next update. As always, thanks for checking in everyone!

I took care of the wiring. Wasn't as difficult as I initially expected, but was a bit tedious. Engine has been given a preliminary wash of black oils. I need to get some grease and oil buildup with subsequent weathering. Also just realized I need to lay down a decal on the gearbox. All the other work the past couple of nights has been on sub-assemblies and priming. Working on getting the gear bays and lower wing section together.

Pretty marked difference between that and the Trumpeter engine. Wow. Great wiring job!

I compared my smallest drill bit and decided I thought there was too much risk of going in at an angle and ruining things. Try an old airbrush needle. I've got an old 0.2mm Iwata needle that I use as a punch for things like this. It's a heck of a lot stronger and less prone to wandering than drill bits and great for really small holes in awkward places.

Thanks everyone. The wiring is tedious as heck, and my not be the best execution, but it will pass as not visible as it will be. But I do think it was worth the time. Thanks for the tip. Never considered that. I just replaced the needle and nozzle on my AB so I do have an extra .2mm.

I've got a really bad habit of not stepping back and taking pictures when I get on a roll. I got the engine wrapped up. Did some test fitting and found some issues with the cowling...which I think was a result of errant left over wiring. So in the madness of getting the cowl straightened out I didn't get pics of the weathered engine, so here's a teaser....I'll have to get some better pics with a macro lens when I get a chance. This is cropped something like 400% The nice guys at ARC ( Adorable Rivet Counters) pointed out that Marine's Dream had the armor plating mod over the turtle deck, so I added those and the glass - since it will be painted over. Finally for now - a lot of time has gone into the center wing assembly and gear bays. Shot with the salmon primer, salted and shot with under-surface color then some washes and airbrush weathering. I've seen three combinations of the coloring here: entirely primer, entirely under-surface color (with perhaps some chipping to the primer), and the combination with the rear section being painted and the forward section being primer only. In the name of visual interest I chose the latter. This whole assembly is complex and parts heavy. Really amazed at how it just all clicks together in the end. The wing actually isn't attached to the fuse. Need to add a couple fiddlies and clean up the leading edges. As always, thanks for peeping in.

Yup. Yours is so close too. Can't wait to see the finished product. This kit is so beautifully engineered...I don't know how I'm going to go back to the run of the mill stuff.

I've been kinda busy in the work world, so it's been scattered nights of even more scattered bench time...however...I've finally got to the primer stage. Nothing really photo worthy up until now...so here we are... Tamiya Surface Primer is a beautiful thing. Just a couple of places that need some target care and then we're hitting it with black. Inner flaps are left off at this point to make painting a little easier. I generally like to just blow out the white background but doing so just washed out the model too, so I've backed down the exposure for the sake of seeing it.

Thank you very kindly, gentlemen. Black down. Light grey going down. This is the first application of the light grey (Tamiya mix) ovet the black base. The next coat will be highly diluted and lightened version of the base color. That will be filled into the darker spots. Note the vertical stabilizer is painted with the light grey. This is where I'd like to ask opinion. The profile and instructions from Barracuda puts the tail as blue grey: However, if you look at the below image it appears to me that this isn't correct. It certainly looks to me as if the color on the tail matches the lower fuselage color. So that's what I'm with at the moment...but I'd like your thoughts....thanks!

Wow Jimmy! You are going nuts and bolts on this. You are building my favorite type of Corsair. I like the birdcage cockpits. I have a 1/48 Hellcat (have to build the cockpit and machinegun bay)i still have to finnish in the same camouflage pattern. I like your build very much.

If you insist! Sooo....it was about this point that I realized I done goofed. I'm doing two layer paint chipping. I don't plan to do any heavy on the bottom, but up the fuselage and wings and leading edges need to be done, so going up the sides was a bit premature. So, it was back to black and then some Aluminum Laid down a few coats of AK Worn Effects followed by the yellow primer. The AK works like hairspray. I may have taken a little more off than I wanted, but getting used to how it came off took some practice. The topcoat chipping will be much more targeted and deliberate anyway. This will dry and I'll have to topcoat with some sort of non-acrylic clear.
