Oh brother that is looking so sweet.
A far as the tail goes, it does look like there is a demarcation between the tail color and the rear fuselage. Color does look different. Any other photos of this or other aircraft from that unit?

Did you end up having to strip the entire plane??? Ouch.
I like what you've got going here...but then again I liked how it looked before, too!

The only images I have found online are the one I posted and the one taken a few minutes before when it was still upside down in the mud.
Someone at ARC claims to have other pictures they can't release until a book is published. He claims this particular aircraft is entirely blue grey up top and not a high demarcation two-tone as most modelers have depicted.
I'm not buying. The book he claims he's waiting for is by Dana Bell...who to my knowledge consulted on the Barracuda sheet. So if he has pictures that says otherwise...then why the profile?
In the end. There is no way that tail is the same color as the wing top and upper fuselage. At least not in my mind, so that's what I'm going with.

I actually would also say, when looking at this picture, that it looks more then a single color, very burnt and weathered one. The color streaks on the side are from exhaust, but the general shade above and below look identic, not different hues which I would expect in 2 color scheme...

Jimmy, you are doing a fantastic job in this one. Love to see the layering and fade effects. I still struggle with all those steps. Hoping to learn more before I get to it on my typhoon. Love what your doing!

Some nice paint work there Jimmy! I hear you about needing to be in the zone when it comes to airbrush work, I'm the same way and it's always better to just wait it out than it is to try to force it!

BEAUTIFUL! Really like its heavy faded paint like we often see on planes serving in the Pacific...

Thank you, sir. That's the idea. Hoping to add to the effect with the oils. It's funny how you always seem to have a vision of the finished thing in your head but it ends up taking a different direction. Maybe I'm the only one that has that problem...haha

Thanks everyone. A wee bit more weathering work up around the nose. I used Model Master enamel oil and grease stain and airbrushed some more staining. I let it dry for about half an hour and with a brush lightlity moistened with mineral spirit I blended it in a bit. Also if you're really observant you can see areas where I used a fresh batch of the light blue to add some repair patching. Excuse the cell phone pic. Trigger batteries died in my strobes and I was too lazy to get more.

Coming along nicely in the weathering department Jimmy, the MD is coming alive one step at a time.

Sorry to hear the chipping didn't work out - it can definitely be fickle. But it's looking great nonetheless!

Chipped or not, that is an EXCELLENT paint job! WOW, those were going to be my exact words. And another WOW for the they way that looks. I opened the box of the -1a and was fondling the plastic. you are making it hard not to scrap what i am working on and dig into this. I have a question for you, and doogs if he sees this. How were the ejector pins marks? I have to see the parts and their orientation but the -1a kit has LOTS of them and they are cavernously deep.

Wow. You stumped me here. I remember there being just a few. I know I didn't fill any. I think there may have been a couple in the tail wheel area that I sanded down. Maybe one or two on the cockpit sidewalls?
I'm I thinking any others there were just wound up not being visible (inside the cowl flaps perhaps?). Like I say I don't remmeber spending any significant time on them (unlike the P-51...who's wheel bay looks like Swiss cheese).
On what parts are you seeing them?

Didn't really notice any major ejector pin marks either. Maybe one or two on a gear strut somewhere I had to deal with? But the overwhelmingly vast majority are going to be hidden (gear bay doors, for example, are two-piecers with an interior face).
I'll take a peek at my -1A tonight or tomorrow and see if I notice anything beyond what I saw with the Birdcage.

It was disappointing to say the least. I think perhaps I just let it sit on there too long. It was several days, so I dunno....sigh...

Holy cow son! Pure airplane porn that is right there. I was going to type more but it's too hard since I keep scrolling up to see the pics again... and again... and again.
