Hello all! I picked up a started/gluebomb Tamiya Porsche 956 kit off of ebay and have been using it as my break and distraction from my 1/48 B-25 that I am foiling. Initially, I wasn't sure which of the dozens of liveries to do for this car, but I've decided to make it look like the 956 test car/prototype. Ive done a little bit of work on it, I repainted parts of the engine and transmission to make them more of the correct colors for the assembly, however, I think I am going to build it with the rear bodywork permanently closed, simply to have a better fit and finish for the body lines and parts. I couldn't just leave the engine looking sorry, even if you wont see any of it

This is way neat. Not really ever gotten into car models (despite a love for cars) but I really do enjoy seeing a good build. I'll enjoy watching what you do with this one.

Oh my, I shouldn't be looking at this but I cut my teeth on car models when I first started and a few AURORA animals and horror kits too, so what the heck... new outlook on things. I have a few kits lingering to do so this will be a great break.
BUT, IT'S A PORSCHE!!! Even as a glue bomb and needing a lot of work it's still worth it! And a 956 at that. And if you are truly sticking wit the whole "test car/prototype", maybe a few period vehicles with it to pull off that whole look.
The interior has me drooling and with an abundant amount of feelings swirling inside, this one I will follow!
Jeff

Thank you guys! I didn't expect the enthusiasm and encouragement for this project, it means a bunch! Jeff, yeah I understand the whole its a Porsche thing, safe to say I am obsessed with the company. I updated a few more parts and cleaned up some stuff on some other ones. The chassis is pretty much now complete, and now that it is, I've decided that I want to plug the engine and put some other hoses on it . I am planning on doing seatbelts and the like to the interior as well, so it'll be nice to slow down a bit, work on that and divert a bit of attention to the B-25. As far as the bodywork goes, I cut off the side markers because they are not on the test car, and I primed the tail section and put a couple coats of white on the main body, and will mask and paint primer hopefully tomorrow on the sections which are supposed to be primer. Also, while on the whole foil kick, I decided to foil what would be the bottom of the monococque, because I can -Alex

I am seeing the progress in person almost daily. It looks better in person than it does in the pictures.

YUP! Looking at some on eBay... not in a hurry though.
Thinking about then adding some rally or Targa alloy wheels to it.

Gotcha, that would look pretty cool. I have a couple models of my 1:1 cars so I hope to build those eventually. Here is a new pic of the bottom updated, the area of the tub and under the turbos and exhaust are now foiled correctly.

Yep, stunning work on the foil. Looks real to me. Your bench must be in a model store as the counters and floors look amazing there! Jeff

Thank you Leon and Jeff! Yes, I often work at the front counter at the hobby shop I work at, it is much cleaner than my home workbench! Good news everyone! I've purchased two Scale Motorsport 956 photoetch sets for this car and the '84 Joest car I am building. Bad news everyone! I've purchased two Scale Motorsport 956 photoetch sets for this car and the '84 Joest car I am building. Worse new everyone! I am going to thoroughly take apart, fix, edit and reassemble this current model in an effort to make it more show worthy (and maybe get an award ) I will be posting updates as I take apart the car and detail it within inches of its life. What mistakes I make on doing this one I hope to not do when I build the other car, and will also be detailing it withing inches of its life. -Alex

If we can make it faster, stronger and better than by all means... let's do it. Your work was by far going just fine but the allure of shiny stuff inside a plastic bag is ALWAYS too great so I don't blame ya! I will be standing by... Jeff
