Live and learn......tamiya black and alclad black

Don't like each other at all......but you all probably knew that already.  Had a abysmal attempt with Alclad gloss black.  Sanded smooth again and tried some Tamiya black in a rattle can I had from a while back.   Crinkle city!  The one wing that was still Alclad gray primer micro filler looks great.   So now to wait till dry and sand away I guess.  Ugh!  Once again I feel like trashing a model!

Stick with it, I am sure you will prevail! Should I assume you are going gloss black over the grey primer? I always had good like with the gloss black over the primer but needed to lay down thin multiple coats allowing it to dry for a few minutes in between. Also was best to put a bowl ove the model after painting to keep the normal household dust to a minimum.

Well kinda! After the Alclad black issues......I sanded but didn't prime that area and that's the area is the one having issues. The wing that is fine was over Alclad primer.

I'd avoid the Alclad black base if I were you. I've ruined stuff with it. There are bad batches that never dry. Ever.

I'm not sure why you'd have problems over the Tamiya spray lacquer unless it wasn't dry and/or you sprayed the Alclad too heavily. I used to use Krylon gloss black lacquer decanted as a base coat and not once had problems, but I just use Tamiya acrylic now.

Btw. You don't have to use a black base with normal alclad. Just with the high shines.

I'll add after rereading your post: if you didn't 100% completely removed the Alclad base from the surface it's almost surely the culprit. Sanding it smooth and not completely away would still cause it to create problems by not drying.
