Decided to sculpt a bust. Hoping that the larger scale will help me develop my skills. Quick concept sketch:  Early sculpting progress:  I'm using a Green Stuff / MagicSculp mix and have recently moved to using Vaseline as a lubricant (previously used tap water). |

Thanks guys! I'm really enjoying this piece so far. I've decided on a jesters hat but am debating between a ruffled clown collar and one of those jesters collars (the type with bells). Any thoughts? I have sculpted a lot of ruffled clown collars and see it as a nice continuity between my models. Similarly, a jesters hat and collar combo might be a bit boring and samey. What do you guys reckon?

Check out if there are other possibilities for a collar! Maybe design something by yourself. Think, you are a designer for KILLER CLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE II: TIME FOR LAUGHING and go to work (hehe), out for something new. At the moment I have no specific idea but a combination of some styles, maybe search for in other centuries. I am sure there will be something "hellraiseresque" to find!
I must use GREEN STUFF too sometimes. It looks on you pic absolute workable. I am stuck to MagicSculpt and Miliput for the underwork, but who dares wins! Love your new conept. You can detail it out like hell and especially the Base rocks, this Jack in the Box style is perfect for a Bust like this. More pics Dude and lets discuss!

That evil grin looks creepy! I could imagine some scars in the face, if this is possible with the mask and what about some hair or one or two wounds at the back of the head? Sorry for that, but I get ideas even if it is not my own design... Looks superb till now!

The jesters hat is looking rather like Satan's horns! The underpinning is currently segmented to allow further shaping of the armature when the putty cures. The hat will probably have four tails in total and I'm considering either bells or skulls at the end of each...  ...and I may give scars a go ;-) |

To me he is a bit Batmanesque! Please no skulls! This would be too "normal" for a Bust like this, I think, Hellsbells would fit in more "naturally"!

The consensus seems to be "no" to skulls, although I will do a few trial sculpts to see what looks best!

If commercially available I would get this for sure, and pop him inside of a "jack in the box" base as mentioned by Frank!!

Hey, thanks guys! The artwork is already off to print, so I really hope I can eventually get this bust cast :-D I've resumed work on the sculpting and I'm still slowly blocking out the shape of the jesters hat. I'm looking forward to getting the boring bit out of the way so I can get on with some fun detail work! Photos to come next week...
