Nice work Joe! You may want to try adjusting the WB settings only since you're shooting against a white background. If you have the ability to set a custom WB on your camera (vs. a 'pre-set' one for a specific type of lighting), that will help with the 'gray' tone you're experiencing with the backdrop.
As far as colors appearing washed-out, that may be down to your ISO settings and/or exposure time settings depending on what you're using?
For example, when I shoot my photos I use a macro lens on a DSLR set to ISO 200 (because I have fairly bright lights, the higher your ISO #, the less light the camera thinks it has to work with and will compensate accordingly) and an exposure of 3.2" against a light blue poster board backdrop for a seamless background. Some cameras have a real hard time with a pure white backdrop, so you might consider using something different there also and see what that does for you?

Many many thanks all.
Jimmy they do have that look for sure. After I got the pictures as best I could last night I noticed that one set of lights had a blue tint. I changed them so we will see the next round.
Bill my ISO is set to 100 and actually for the raw picture the exposure was .3. I may need to play more with that but I do think I had plenty of light. As for the white background that is actually the one thing that is not changing. I printed off a grey card, maybe I should play with that a bit.

As for the white background that is actually the one thing that is not changing. I printed off a grey card, maybe I should play with that a bit. Joe An 18% grey card can help you with light metering if your camera has the ability to make changes there and do custom WB but I suspect your ISO setting at 100 is probably your biggest culprit for washing out the color in your photos. Just out of curiosity, how many and what power (wattage) of lighting are you using? For my photo booth setup I use four incandescent 75w GE Reveal bulbs in flexible clamp lamps as direct lighting plus the additional overhead room lighting in the fan/light mount and that is more than enough to get sharp clear pictures. ISO and exposure settings usually move in the inverse of each other (meaning that the higher your ISO, the longer your exposure time might need to be to capture detail). Every camera is going to be different in how it 'sees' things (I've had two exact models of the same brand of camera with the exact same settings and lenses taking photos side-by-side yield different results, kind of funny in a way) so there's no 100% guaranteed formula that always works...plus there's also the potential issue of how it looks on your monitor settings that may be influencing how you see the finished photos vs. how the camera is actually seeing it too! Welcome to the wonderful world of digital photography.

You are very kind my friend. Helicopters are an interesting build. Not really in my comfort zone but not terribly out of it either.

I have been away. Saw that you have entered it into MoM so I had to stop by to say that you have done an outstanding work on the Huey.
