A gratuitous primer shot or two: And keeping in mind my somewhat rebellious attitude about what IDF sand gray really is, and my thoughts about leaving this thing in primer and weathering that, I have this color, picked up for an upcoming IDF build: ....which looks like this over primer: Thoughts?

It is always nice to see when all comes together after priming. Way cool and I am more than only curious what paint scheme you will givt him. To work here, mate, and very impressing!

Man, it's tough trying to decide whether or not to "paint".... In the meantime, I primed the side skirts. It's supposed to be nice this weekend, so I have that long to decide.

So in keeping with the futuristic but plausible nature of this build, I decided to stay with the gray as the actual color, but to make it look like a hasty over spray of the IDF sand gray. To do so, I took Humbrol buff and worked it into all the hard to get areas, insides of the road wheels, and belly armor. Then I went over it with a thin black wash, and pin washed all the bolt heads, cracks, crevasses, etc, paying special attention to bolt heads. Tracks are mounted to check for fit, took them back off after pics, and primed them. Next is a gloss coat, decals and detail painting, followed with pigments and flat.

Thank you, Leon. I snagged a very large sheet of IDF decals by Meng through Squadron, came today. They're intended for Merk3's, but there's some things in there that are almost generic IDF, and some nifty tank and unit names too. I wonder if there are some Star Trek fans in the IDF, cuz some of the large tanks names (or unit mottoes) look like Klingon script....

Making great progress on this one Russ! Nice to see the main paint work done, on to the fun part with all the details. Had to chuckle about the Klingon script...The Star Trek writers/creators draw inspiration from a lot of places for the Star Trek universe, wouldn't surprise me if Hebrew didn't have an influence along the way.

There are some strong similarities... enough that I'm going to make a couple of "sign boards" and use the most "Klingon-ish" of the several on the sheet. If I actually knew anyone that read Klingon, it might be an interesting question to pose.... but I'm not that much of a Trekker. So I had a few minutes this morning and got the track-contact areas of the wheels and sprockets painted silver (Boltgun Metal from Games Workshop, good stuff) and have plenty of gloss to do what areas will receive decals, but looking at the pic I took this morning, need to clean up some tide-marks first: Onward, or should I say: "Going where no man has gone before"?

Between the Bolt gun and the sword of Mithril silver, I'm well-equipped..... So, shiny! Decals next, but we're in sunny (hopefully) San Juan, PR this weekend, so no modeling for a bit.

Thanks, guys, every day better. Dupes, I like the stripe too. Now that I've begun using decals instead of painting them, they're much less of a headache, too. I started cutting out all the numbers I'll need to do the skirts (last three digits of the tank's serial number on each one) and also puzzling through the other markings, so hopefully soon. Here's an interesting bit of trivia: This is the only model I've been working on since I started it. That, for me, is an extreme rarity. No idea why, but there it is, out in the open.....

Last night was "Girls' night" whoopee! Pigments on, tracks dirtied, polished and installed, and detail painting begun. The pics don't really show the contrast between the base color and uneven pigment application, it's actually streaked and scrubbed in wear areas. I also forgot to take a pic of the side skirts, which came out lovely: lots of caked-on grunge. More soon, I hope.....
